Punk Rock Trivia: Dave King (Flogging Molly) is a recovering metalhead

Every Friday (or whenever we get around to it) the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene unleash a tasty little nugget of punk rock trivia in an effort to blow our readers’ minds. Also, we like to make ourselves feel smart.  Today’s fun factoid is about the relatively unknown beginnings Flogging Molly’s singer, Dave King.

You may know Dave King as the singer/guitarist of LA Irish punk sensations Flogging Molly, but are you aware of what the foul-mouthed Irish punk was up to before he got his start in punk rock? Hair metal. Straight-up old-school hair metal. That’s him second from the right with the creepy jazz hands. Mind you, this is with his SECOND metal band, Katmandu.

King’s first band was Fastway, whose lineup included “Fast” Eddie Clarke of Motorhead. That band enjoyed moderate success, making it onto the U.S. and U.K. Billboard Charts with their first two albums, as well as their soundtrack album for the 1986 horror film “Trick or Treat.”

Take a minute to watch this gem of a music video by Fastway for their song “All Fired Up.” But please note before you do, once you see Dave King in these pants, you cannot unsee it. You have been warned.

Quite a jump from that to this, but to each his own.
