Punk Rock Trivia: “Pirates of the Caribbean” director was in a punk band with Bad Religion’s Mr. Brett

Every once in a while the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene like to unleash some punk rock trivia to enlighten and enhance the minds of you, the readers. Today’s trivia is about the intersection of punk rock and the Hollywood blockbuster.

We’re all familiar with the Pirates of the Caribbean mega franchise. But before director Gore Verbinski made his contribution to high seas adventure, he made a couple of small contributions to punk rock. Verbinski was the guitarist of the Brett Gurewitz fronted band Daredevils, which existed for a short period of time after Mr. Brett quit Bad Religion in 1994. The band released one single, “Hate You,” then quickly disbanded. Before that, Verbinski directed several videos for Bad Religion, including the classic “Atomic Garden,” and “American Jesus.”
