Singer and multi-instrumentalist Tiff Schirz formed the Electrets in late 2013 with bassist Stephanie Rose, after the two met through a mutual friend. She soon enlisted longtime friend and musician Mindy Ihrke to cover keyboards/percussion and some vocals, and Andrea "A.C." Cline completed the lineup on drums.
Influenced by bands like the Ramones, the Pretenders, Pixies, and Raconteurs, the all-female foursome blends blues-rock and post-punk grooves with quirky keyboard lines, harmonies, and modern-day female irreverence. The name 'Electrets' was inspired by an old, electret-type microphone - a nod to the band's affinity for technology and sounds from the analog era. 'Electrets' also, Tiff notes, sounds 'vaguely female.'
The band's high-energy shows recall the early days of punk, inspiring fans to dance. Their first EP,'Misfit', was released on August 16 2014, with a release show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.
