It seems like lately lots of bands are breaking up, disbanding, going on hiatus, or something of the like. Today, I am saddened to announce that Manchester, UK ska/punk band Harijan has decided to call it quits. The band didn’t give any specific reasons as to why, after six years of rocking, they decided to walk away. You can read the full blog from Harijan themselves right here.
Harijan has a couple shows lined up before they go their separate ways. Their May 3 show in Bolton with the Voodoo Glow Skulls is said to be their last. We wish these guys the best as they go on to other ventures.
Ok Guys some news from us that will be kept brief and to the point:
After 6 and a half years of gigging we have decided to call it a day. It is a decision we have made as a band and after much thought. We are all still the best of mates.
The Voodoo Glow Skulls show at Bolton’s Soundhouse will be our next and last gig.
Being Harijan has been an unbelievable experience that is too difficult to sum up right now. We have had an incredible time and met some fantastic people who have no doubt become friends for life.
We were part of an amazing Manchester scene that we hope we played a small part in helping to build, a scene we never anticipated we would be part of, with a quality of bands we didn’t think would be possible when we first started out. It has been an honour to have been part of this scene and to have been associated with these bands.
We would like to thank Andy and Bev from TNS Records for putting so much work and time into us, for having faith in us and pushing us and for giving us the opportunity to bring out a cd. Thankyou and an extra big hug to Emily (No way you stole our thunder lol!!! How strangely synchronistic?!?!) for pretty much making the Manchester ska map…. and putting us on it. You created something very special and definitely the best and most memorable gigs we have played – you will be sorely missed.
Thank you to The Fractions for being our best bud’s from day 1 and being the best band in the world. Huge Big Up to The Autonomads, Matt and Pumpkin Records. The tour was amazing, you guys have had such a big influence on us and shown us so much love.
Stand Out Riot, The John Player Specials, Rasta4Eyes, Catch It Kebabs, Sense of Urgency, Rising Strike, A War Against Sound, Random Hand, Minions of Jeffrey, Sounds of Swami, The Kirkz, Revenge of…., China Shop Bull, The Physical Jerks, Liberation: all amazing bands it has been brilliant to get to know and play with.
Also, we have to say thanks to some lynch pins of the scene and local live music generally: Jake Welsh, Josh Langen Emmorett, Sam, Pinny, Mikey Wong and Jim, Lizzy and Jen, Massif Dave, Scott and Don, Fungal Punk Dave,The Bomb Ibiza and TNS crews, The Bolton and Manchester Punx, Alex Gamberro, Gash, Dean of Slit Promotions
And finally to all our friends and family for all the support they have shown us over the years. There will be people we have forgot to thank but will update when we remember….
So let us hand over the baton to the children of the ghetto, the youth of the scene who aren’t even that young anymore… We hope the younger bands we have had any influence on will carry on flying the flag of class consciousness, bad ass reggae, hard rockin and general debauchery. Learn from our mistakes and MAKE A FUCKING GO OF IT!!!
Peace, Love, Unity
Jah Bless
Harijan
