Introducing New Pop-Punk Band: Boat Race Weekend (Spokane, Washington)

I’m going to be honest here for a minute — I know, I know, you’d expect nothing less — but I get nervous when I have to write about a new pop-punk band sometimes. As a child of the early 1990s, pop-punk obviously means something much different now than it did then, and I find myself not liking (in fact…loathing) a lot of pop punk from the last decade.

But then along comes a band like Boat Race Weekend comes on and helps restore my faith in humanity. Okay, maybe not in humanity, but definitely in pop-punk. The Spokane-based three-piece (go Zags!) play a style that recalls bands like Samiam and Screw 32 while undoubtedly absorbing some of that classic 1990s Pacific Northwest influence. The band recently released their debut full-length, The Talisman, and you can stream it below. We highly recommend it. You can check out the video for their track “Beatiful Days” here while you’re at it.
