Watch (and sing along with) two new karaoke-themed videos by PWRUP!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of two new karaoke-themed videos by Massachusetts-based ska punkers PWRUP! The videos are for their new songs “They Bartholomule” and “Castigation: The Simulation” which features Joe, Jay, and Liz from The Best of the Worst, Eric Skazzini of Voodoo Glow Skulls, and Chris Ruckus of Dissidente. Speaking about the tracks, the band said, ”’They Bartholomule’ is a song about the frustrations of feeling more stuck with age, and realizing one’s place in society, and how the webs of marionette strings we find ourselves stuck in are systemic and working exactly as intended. Our society is based on a ruling oligarchy and a subjugated working class, everyone knows it but we’re too comfortable to care or do anything about it for fear of greater personal hardship. This song pulls influence from bands like Folly, Comeback Kid, Public Access, and American Nightmare, as well as a few capitalism-induced panic attacks at work. This song also features the name of the upcoming full-length, Just Devils. ’Castigation: The Simulation’ is our ska-punk ode to learning to let go of the past, forgiving yourself, and moving on, despite life’s constant reminders of mistakes you’ve made and people who you may have negatively affected in the process. One of the major themes of the full length is that it’s great to be a better person than you used to be, and it doesn’t negate what you’ve done in the past, but wallowing in self-pity and shame forever is more masturbatory than accepting accountability and moving forward. We feel so fortunate to have our longtime friends Joe, Jay, and Liz from The Best Of The Worst doing guest vocals for this track. Notable influences on this would definitely be Big D & The Kids Table, The Flaming Tsunamis, Arrogant Sons Of Bitches, and the entirety of Bojack Horseman. This track also features Eric Skazzini (Voodoo Glow Skulls) on sax and Chris Ruckus (Dissidente) on keys.” Both tracks are available on streaming today and will be on their upcoming album Just Devils which will be out in late October via Ska Punk International. Watch the videos (and sing along) below!

The Venomous Pinks release video for "Hold On"

The Venomous Pinks have released a video for their song “Hold On” which features Jason Cruz of Strung Out. The video was directed by Nikki Carmela & Alexander Thomas. Speaking about the video Drea Doll said, ”"The video, "Hold On", was filmed on March 19, 2023 before The Venomous Pinks' tour with the Bouncing Souls and Anti Flag. During filming, I wore an Anti Flag shirt that was printed by my best friend and bandmates' printing company, Kaos Merch. The decision to wear this particular shirt was to give a shout out to her business, while also promoting a band whose morals I believed at the time aligned with my own. As a woman, I stand and believe the survivors that were impacted by Justin Sane's horrific acts. While we were on tour with Anti Flag we did not witness any sexual wrongdoing whatsoever, but as a fellow SA survivor, I will not support anyone who has victimized another person. We didn't know what we know now. We could have requested to edit the video so the shirt is no longer visible. However, we felt it would be dishonest and disloyal to those who were impacted. That does not align to who we are as individuals and collectively as a band. The foundation of Venomous Pinks has and will always be built on honesty, transparency, and validity. In that spirit, we present the video as it was originally filmed. We apologize if any of our actions have hurt anyone in the process. Our hearts go out to all survivors. As a band, we are so proud of those who have come forward to speak their truth.” If you or anyone you know has been a victim of sexual assault please contact the National Sexual Assult Hotline at 1-800-656-4673 or visit www.rainn.orgThe song is off their album Vita More which was released in 2022. Check out the video below.

Boris and Melvins performed in Chicago during the middle of their “Twins of Evil” tour, a 43-date run through the United States with each band playing one of their classic albums in full. Boris played their Heavy Rocks album from 2002 and Melvins performed their Bullhead album from 1991. The Twins of Evil Tour kicked off in Los Angeles on 24 August 2023 and was scheduled to conclude in San Diego on 14 October 2023. Chicago’s own Mr. Phylzzz were the opening act throughout this amazing commemorative tour.

Celebrating their 40th anniversary, Melvins performed their classic Bullhead album and other songs from their extensive back catalog, making this a killer night for fans of sludgy, experimental heavy music. And it’s only appropriate that Boris, who named themselves after one of the standout cuts on Bullhead, were on this commemorative run. Unfortunately, Melvins drummer Dale Crover was unable to join vocalist/guitarist King Buzzo and bassist Steven McDonald on this run, due to emergency surgery. However, longtime Melvins associate, Coady Willis (Big Business, High On Fire, Murder City Devils), joined them on drums because the show must go on. Check out the rest of the tour dates here.

Boris performed their Heavy Rocks album and gave their fans the psychedelic doom rock they came for. Boris is comprised of drummer Atsuo, guitarist/bassist Takeshi, and guitarist Wata. Boris celebrated the release of Heavy Rocks on Third Man Records and Attention Please. Check them out here.

Chicago-based duo Mr. Phylzzz are currently on tour with Boris and Melvins celebrating their new album Fat Chance on Amphetamine Reptile Records. Mr.Phylzzz is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Clinton Jacobs and drummer Danny Sein. Check them out here.
