Rahill brings a May bloom with debut album ‘Flowers At Your Feet’

New York-based Iranian-American multidisciplinary artist and musician Rahill Jamalifard, perhaps best known as lead singer of Habibi and now simply as Rahill, dropped her debut full-length solo indie-pop record, Flowers At Your Feet, via Big Dada on May 12. The 14-track album, with its shimmering synth and floating vocals, features intricate lyricism exploring memories from childhood through adult life. In one poignant example, the sparsely instrumented “Ode to Dad,” Rahill talks about how “Outside the world’s gone mad / Dad’s […]

CLIFFDIVER tap a Descendent for ‘Oh Bondage, Up Yours!’ cover

There’s nothing better than a good punk rock cover that helps wake up the neighbors, and CLIFFDIVER have returned with a fiery reboot of an already fiery classic, stirring up X-Ray Spex’s meteoric ripper “Oh Bondage, Up Yours!” with an assist from Stephen Egerton of Descendents and All on lead guitar. It’s an especially inspired effort from CLIFFDIVER co-lead singer Briana Wright, who channels her inner Poly Styrene to bring the the fury of 1977 right into 2023. “I’ve had the […]

The Menzingers came to party at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday May 6 with a stacked lineup of support featuring New Bedford, MA’s own A Wilhelm Scream, Ramona, and more MA locals Have Fun!

The Menzingers seem to love Massachusetts quite a bit, being the city they sing about the second most after Philly. It is clear that Massachusetts loves them right back– the crowd singing along to every word of every song. The energy was joyous and undeniable.

It is always a blast to get to shoot Massachusetts’ own A Wilhelm Scream. This band can get a pit going in any room they play. They were a perfect fit on this bill with The Menzingers.

Ramona originates from Philly but their members are scattered all over the US now. They still manage to absolutely crush it when they do get together to play shows, like for this tour.

Local openers Have Fun! did indeed have fun kicking off this show for us!

Check out some photos from the show in the gallery below!

Interviews: Getting inside the mind of a composer with JER

Multi-talented multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Hunter is known for many things including their Skatune Network YouTube channel, being the trombonist in We Are The Union, and releasing excellent solo music under the name JER. On top of all of this, they are also an incredible composer who wrote the soundtrack for the upcoming video game Sunshine Shuffle. The game centers around a group of cartoon animals involved in a high-stakes poker game and it’s your job to uncover the part each one played in a bank robbery. JER’s instrumental traditional-ska-infused soundtrack complements the game perfectly, evoking a laid-back yet upbeat vibe that is ideal for sleuthing on the S.S. Sunshine. Sunshine Shuffle will be available on Nintendo Switch and Steam on May 24 via Strange Scaffold. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with JER over Zoom to talk about what goes into composing a soundtrack, what drew them to music composition, the connection between video games and ska, and so much more. Read the interview below!
