Southern Ontario-based punks and avid birders Avem have just released their excellent new EP Nerdin About Birdin that sees them tackling the negative effects climate change is having on birds (and humans!), talking about addiction, and discussing the mating rituals of bowerbirds over kick-ass Ramonescore riffs. The band are getting ready to spread their wings and take their bird-conscious punk to the international stage. Along with recently signing with Belgium's Bearded Punk Records, the band will be playing Punk Rock Raduno in Italy and Festivalkult in Germany in July. They will also be crossing the border and playing Fest in Gainesville this October. And if you live in Ontario or Montreal, fear not! Avem will be coming your way later this month. Nerdin About Birdin is out now on Mom's Basement Records. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with bassist and vocalist Julian Warmland over Zoom to talk about playing festivals, their new EP, what we can do to help birds, and so much more. Weird Nightmare, the solo project of Alex Adkins of METZ, has released a cover of “She’s the One” by the Ramones. The song originally appeared on the Ramones’ album 1978 album Road to Ruin. Aaron Goldstein plays pedal steel and Hammond organ and Loel Campbell plays drums on the cover which is out now digitally via Sub Pop Records. The cover comes with a video that was created by Ladyhead Design. Weird Nightmare released a split with Ancient Shapes and a self-titled album in 2022. Check out the video below.

The Chats and Cosmic Psychos have announced Australian tour dates together for this summer. The Chats are currentlytouring the UK and Europe and released their album Get Fucked in 2022. Cosmic Psychos released Mountain of Piss in 2021. Check out the dates below.

Oklahoma-based hardcore and punk festival Flyover Fest has announced the majority of their lineup for this year. Pain Of Truth, End It, Restraining Order, BIB, A Mourning Star, Anklebiter, Bazookatooth, Brat, Candy Apple, Caustic, Cold Shoulder, Contention, Dayz Lost, Doubt It, Downward, En Love, Enervate, Fading Signal, Free 4 All, Gagging Order, Gnaw, Gumm, Hold My Own, Initiate, Inside You, Jivebomb, Life Force, Livid, Morbid Visionz, Mouth For War, No Cure XXX, Peace Test, Prevention, Primitive Rage, Public Opinion, Rabbit, Raw Breed, Roman Candle, Sector, Sign Language, Sledge, Soledad, Sour, Spine, Squint, The Runts, Tooth & Nail Records, Time X Heist, Burning Heart, World I Hate, Wreckage, and Your Spirit Dies will be playing the festival. The final two headliners will be announced on August 1. All proceeds from the fest benefit Oklahomans For Equality. Flyover Fest will take place November 17-19 at VFW Post 577 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mercy Music have released a video for their new song “Found Out I’m Useless”. The video was shot by Ill Thinking. The song is off their upcoming album What You Stand to Lose which will be out on June 30 via Double Helix Records / SBAM Records. The video for this song is a montage of Don’t Sleep live shows, but interspersed with scenes from Harrisburg, PA, the hometown of 4/5 of Don’t Sleep. The video was beautifully edited by Josh Nesmith. Brutal Youth have released a live video of them performing “Whiteway” at this year’s Pouzza Fest. The video was shot by Landyn McIntosh, Jason Duchene, Chris LeBlanc, and Aki Narita during their set on May 20 at Foufones Electriques in Montreal. The song is off their 2016 album Sanguine. Brutal Youth released Rebuilding Year earlier this year. Check out the video below.
