Bad Time Records have announced that they are working on a concert film and documentary called THIS IS NEW TONE. The documentary will be based on the upcoming US Bad Time Tour which features We Are The Union, Catbite, and Kill Lincoln on all dates plus Omnigone, Joystick, Bad Operation, and J. Navarro and The Traitors playing support on select dates. That tour will begin in March. A description for the film reads in part, ” Much in the spirit of the film "Dance Craze", the film will primarily center on multi-camera live performances from throughout the tour, but will also document the bands and crew as they embark on this full-US venture.  Featuring interviews from current band members, scene veterans, new fans, and ska legends, the film will also attempt to examine the current state of the modern ska punk scene, how it fits into the broader arc of ska's history, and try to discover if the perceived "resurgence" is accurate or inflated. With many of the Bad Time Records bands rapidly growing, now is the perfect time to document the trajectory of the bands and the impact of the community.[…]In the process of making the film, we will have a camera and sound crew documenting all 22 dates of the 2023 Bad Time Records tour.  Hours of interview footage has already been captured, and the majority of the remaining filming will take place during the tour in March, June, and July of 2023.  We are currently aiming for a December 2023 release of the film.” Bad Time Records owner and Kill Lincoln singer Mike Sosinski will be directing, editing, and animating the film and Rae Mystic, Brent Friedman, Robert Menzer, G Leonardo, Sofia Dupre, Aaron Cranes, Andrew Sacher, Kitzy Sound, and Devon Kay are also involved with the film. A Kickstarter has been created to help fund the film. Check out the trailer below.

It appears that The Suicide Machines are working on new music. Frontman Jason Navarro recently posted a photo of song breakdowns to his Instagram account along with the caption, “@suicidemachinesdetroit 2023 writings”. The Suicide Machines released their split with Coquettish called Gebo Gomi in 2022 and their album Revolution Spring in 2020. Check out the post below.

Pussy Riot have released a video for “Putin’s Ashes”. The video was directed, edited, styled, and scored by Nadia Tolokonnikova. The description of the video reads, "Putin's Ashes was initiated in August 2022, when Pussy Riot burned a 10 x 10 foot portrait of the Russian president, performed rituals, and cast spells aimed to chase Putin away. Twelve women participated in the performance. In order to join, women were required to experience acute hatred and resentment toward the Russian president. Most of the participants were either Ukrainian, Belarusian, or Russian." The video coincides with the opening of an art exhibit of the same name which highlights the ashes from the burned portrait. The exhibit runs until February 3 at Jeffrey Deitch’s art gallery in Los Angeles. Pussy Riot released their mixtape MATRIARCHY NOW in 2022. Check out the video below.

Bandcamp has announced the continuation of their “Bandcamp Fridays” initiative for this year. The first Friday of every month will see the company waiving its revenue share so all of the profits go towards the artists and/or the labels. Bandcamp Fridays for this year are February 3 (this Friday!), March 3, April 7, May 5, August 4, September 1, October 6, November 3, and December 1.

Tom Verlaine, the singer, and guitarist for Television, has passed away. He was 73 and died in New York City following a brief illness on January 28. Jesse Paris Smith, the daughter of Patti Smith, announced his passing in a statement that reads, ”He died peacefully in New York City surrounded by close friends. His vision and his imagination will be missed.” Television released three studio albums and a handful of live albums, the most notable being 1977's Marquee Moon . Tom Verlaine released nine solo albums (not including a compilation album) the last of which was Around in 2006. We send our condolences to Tom Verlaine’s family, friends, and fans.
