SOCAN Polaris Song Prize announces 2025 Long List

The Polaris Music Prize has announced its Long List for its first-ever SOCAN Polaris Song Prize. The song that wins will take home $10, 000 which will be split between the Canadian musicians and the credited Canadian songwriters. The Long List features 20 songs including, “History Of Violence” and “9th Heaven” by Backxwash, “The Traveller” by Art d’Ecco, “Constant Love” by Richard Laviolette, “Gaza is Calling” by Mustafa, “Changes” by The OBGMs featuring SATE, “At Peace” by Propagandhi, and “Wrong Planet” by Ribbon Skirt. This is Polaris’ first new award since the Heritage Prize was brought to life in 2015. The 5-song Short List will be announced on July 29. The winner of the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize will be announced at the Polaris Concert and Award Ceremony along with the winner of the Album Prize and the Heritage Prize. The event will take place on September 16 at Massey Hall in Toronto, Ontario. You can see the list in full below.

GWAR, Helmet, Dwarves, Blood Vulture to tour for GWAR's 40th anniversary

GWAR is celebrating their 40th anniversary with the Return of Gor-Gor tour. Presumably, the band's pet t-rex will make an appearance and likely try to eat the band. they will be joined by Helmet, The Dwarves, and Blood Vulture. The tour runs most of Fall and hits most of USA and some of Canada. You can see the dates below.

Wet Leg release video for "davina mccall"

Wet Leg have released a video for their new song “davina mccall". The video was directed by Chris Hopewell and animated by Jacky Howson. The song is off their upcoming album moisturizer which will be out on July 11 via Domino. Wet Leg released their self-titled album in 2022. Check out the video below.

Hunx and His Punx have released a video for their new song “No Way Out”. The video was directed by Jennifer Juniper Stratford. The song is off their upcoming album Walk Out On This World which will be out on August 22 via Get Better Records. Hunx and His Punx will be touring the US and Ontario starting in late August. Their most recent album was 2013’s Street Punk. Check out the video below.

Flooding have released a video for their new song “Depictions of the Female Body”. The video features footage from their 2025 spring tour and was filmed and edited by Cole Billings. Sprints to release new album, share "Descartes" video, announce tour (IE, UK, EU)

Sprints have announced that they will be releasing a new album. It is called All That Is Over and will be out on September 26 via City Slang and Sub Pop Records. The band has also released a video for their new song “Descartes” which was directed and produced by Niamh Bryson. Sprints will be touring Ireland and the UK in November and will be touring Europe in March 2026. They released their album Letter To Self in 2024. Check out the video, tracklist, and dates below.

Ottawa-based music festival Side by Side Weekend has announced its lineup for this year. Victime, Slash Need, Crisis Party, Ruby Doom, Knitting, Roach, Ai Amor, Anni Elation, Bucko, Caligula, Cootie Catcher, Dark Room, Lady Grey and the Phantoms, Neurotypes, Geunf, Lilfridge, Sweet Morgane, Banggz, Big Sissy, Dannysukess, Dynesti, Hug Mosh, HRT, Mars Aspen, Mopar Stars, Ruby Doom, Backseat Dragon, Devoter, Emmersonhall, Fiamma, Goodwill Suck Machine, Los3r, Glowveins, Nothing Nobody, and Sam Aleums will be playing the festival. Side by Side Weekend will take place on July 25-27 at Club Saw in Ottawa, Ontario
