617 Q&A: George Thorogood on Boston’s Combat Zone, drinking songs, and being the last of his kind

“You heard of the Boogaloo? You heard of the Philly Freeze? You heard of the Boston Monkey?” That’s how a loud and animated George Thorogood starts the conversation. It’s akin to chatting with a tightly coiled snake. You never know when he’s going to strike. Once a devoted blues disciple and now elder statesman, he’s one of the few left from the last generation who got to see the genre’s greats like Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, and Muddy Waters live […]

Listen to the new EP and read a track-by-track breakdown by Avem!

We are super stoked to bring you the premiere of the new EP by Southern Ontario-based punk rockers (and avid birders) Avem just in time for Father’s Day! The EP features 6 songs written by guitarist Ernie’s dad Graham and it is named the Graham Cracker EP in his honour. We caught up with the band to hear their thoughts on each of the tracks and Brad Manners of School Damage also talked about his love of the EP. Graham Cracker EP will be out everywhere on June 17. Listen to the EP and read all about it below!

All the way from Y2K, the cult classic sophomore album from Nebraska pop-punk veterans The Young Hasselhoffs Get Dumped will see a release on vinyl for the first time on July 12th, courtesy of Mom’s Basement Records. Pop-punk aficionados know what to expect – twelve tracks of delicious harmonies and earworm melodies, all wrapped up in that old school Lookout! sound.

We’re all about color variants here at the Dying Scene Record Radar, so let’s talk about the ones Get Dumped is getting. There’ll be pink marble and green marble variants, each limited to 100 copies, as well as a preorder exclusive clear vinyl variant with pink and green splatter, limited to 50 copies. All three variants come housed in a jacket with updated, spiffed up cover art.

But wait, there’s more! The band has also unearthed a box of the original CDs released in 2000 on Reinforcement Records, and Mom’s Basement will be including a free copy of the original CD with each LP while supplies last. They’ve got a sweet t-shirt up for grabs as well.

Pre-orders go live today, so hurry over to the Mom’s Basement webstore and get your copies before it’s too late! If the last Young Hasselhoffs reissue is any guide, expect the preorder exclusive variant to sell out quickly.
