Local Drags is back with a new album called City in a Room, due to be out May 17th on Stardumb Records. We’re stoked to be premiering the music video for the album’s leadoff single “Left in the Sun’”, another catchy power pop nugget, something people who followed Lanny Durbin’s in both this band as well as Starter Jackets have come to expect from him. Check the video out below and pre-order the record here!

After dipping into alt country accents with its predecessor Mess of Everything, Local Drags makes an even sharper left turn with their fourth LP City in a Room. Lanny Durbin’s songwriting is still razor-edged and to the point, with a mix of darker indie rock vibes sinking into the instrumentation. Melody and optimism still make their way to the top. Fighting depression with power pop!

This premiere is brought to you in part by Punk Rock Radar. If you’d like your band’s music video to be premiered by Dying Scene and Punk Rock Radar, go here and follow these instructions. You’ll be on your way to previously unimagined levels of fame and fortune in no time!

Alex Bleeker and Luke Pyenson to release book ft stories from Bob Mould, Steve of PUP, more

Alex Bleeker, the bassist for Real Estate, has announced that he will be releasing his first book. The book is called Taste in Music: Eating On Tour with Indie Musicians and was written with food and travel writer Luke Pyenson who used to play in Frankie Cosmos. The book features stories from musicians including Bob Mould, Chris Frantz of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, The Beths, Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz, Steve Sladkowski of PUP, Stephanie Philips of Big Joanie, and more. The description of the book reads, ”In addition to meditations about eating on tour, Pyenson and Bleeker have gathered illuminating and thought-provoking stories that take place on five continents, in private homes and street-side stalls, in temples of fine dining and in actual temples, backstage and in the van, early morning and late at night. Stories that deal with the best parts of touring: meaningful cultural exchange, hospitality-induced euphoria, and the opportunity to build relationships around the world. And the worst: loneliness, exhaustion, estrangement from family and friends, struggles with disordered eating, and unsteady access to medical care.” It will be out on September 24 via Chronicle Books. See the full list of artists involved below.

Bloom Fest celebrates local beats and buds in Cambridge

Enough with the ditties about “April showers” — let’s talk about April’s Bloom Fest instead. A new showcase of Boston music takes root in Cambridge this weekend, gathering area rappers, DJs, and R&B acts in the name of “Earth’s greatest plant.” (Which would sound like a riddle, were the event not taking place at a venue owned by Diaspora, a members-only cannabis club). Bloom Fest is scheduled for this Saturday (April 13) at the Harvard Square event space Dx @Dunster, […]
