Listen to the new track by States of Nature!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the new song by Oakland, California-based post-punks States of Nature! The song is called “New Foundations” and the band had this to say about it, ”This song was the last one written for the record. It came from another song we had written which had cool ideas but just wasn't working. Once we decided to scrap the other, Eric took some of those seeds and put this one together in about 30 minutes. We all think it's our favorite track on the LP and really encapsulates what we are trying to achieve with the record: music that is danceable and fun, with a hint of seriousness and introspection. Lyrically the song takes a bleak look at the world around us. Raised in a post-9/11 world, the song observes the way paranoia shapes decision-making that is harmful and destructive. This directly ties to what's happening today homelessness and the housing crisis in California. There are policy decisions happening at state and local levels that intentionally make it harder to build new housing, also pushed by positions the public holds around conservation of city aesthetics and a complete misunderstanding of why people are on the streets in the first place.” ”New Foundations” will be on their upcoming album Brighter Than Before which will be out on February 16 via Sell the Heart Records, Little Rocket Records, and Epidemic Records. Listen to the song below!

Mic’d Up: Jim Jefferies, Kevin Hart, Mirman & O’Kane, BCCA

Editor’s Note: The shot clock has been reset and we’re in the early innings of a brand new year. However, we all know just how grey and cold the winter months can feel once the holidays wrap up, so comedy is continuing to do the Lord’s work by giving us something to smile (or groan, wince, or gasp) at. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to […]

Remember the Patriots’ glory days with ‘The Dynasty’ trailer

It’s an uncommon predicament to have announcers reflecting on how good it is that the New England Patriots lost an awful snow bowl game against the Jets because it would improve their chances at getting a better draft pick, but that’s where we are: We’re in the “Ozymandias” stage of the Bill Belichick era, after all. But we’ll always have those six rings to wave in front of our faces like the region’s own John Cena (albeit much more awkwardly), […]

‘The Greatest Night in Pop’ trailer documents the ‘We Are the World’ recording session

One huge bummer about our atomized popular culture is that we’ve lost one of the great contributions that the music industry made to the artistic canon in the back half of the 20th century: The Charity Mega-Song. Folks still love “Do They Know it’s Christmas” after all, to the point that someone was one going to make a slasher movie about Bob Geldof and that legendary recording session. Getting Soundcloud rappers and TikTok stars together just doesn’t have the same […]
