Mic’d Up: Kenice Mobley, Whale City Comedy Festival, Greg Stone, Sean Patton

Editor’s Note: As the summer wears on, and the earth continues to melt a little more each day, it’s becoming abundantly clear that the best place to be is indoors – like comedy clubs and theaters. The good news here is that comedy is still coursing through the veins of The Commonwealth even as the temperature rises and the humidity keeps things soupy, so you have plenty to do while also evading the heat. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open […]

Mickey Leigh sues Linda Ramone for violating Ramones IP

The battle between Ramones stake holders continues. Over the past few years, the relationship between Mickey Leigh (Joey's brother) and Linda Ramone (Johnny's wife) has been rocky at the very best. In 2022, Mickey Leigh sold Joey Ramone's share of Ramones and joey solo publishing for $10 million to a publishing conglomerate. Following that, Linda sued Mickey over Mickey's Ramone-centric film which was set to star Pete Davidson as Joey. That matter is still outstanding. Well, the battle is getting hotter. On Friday, Mickey sued Linda for violating various Ramones Intellectual Property. The complaint was filed in a Manhattan Federal court and chiefly alleges that Linda is violating trademarks and agreements held by RPI (the entity that manages Ramones I.P. and is own equally between Linda and Mickey). Generally, the complaint states that Linda only started calling herself "Linda Ramone" after johnny's passing and by using this name, she is violating the agreements set in place for RPI which detail how the RAMONES trademark may be used. As part of the complaint, Leigh states: "Ms. Cummings-Ramone has made and continues to make blatant attempts to exploit and personally capitalize on and benefit from the name, goodwill and legacy of the Ramones — that is, to try to push the false narrative that she is the heiress to … the Ramones’ legacy,” Leigh’s lawyers write. “She most certainly is not. She is nothing more than a blatant self-promoter and an infringer.[…] Ms. Cummings-Ramone presents herself to the world as ‘Linda Ramone’ and unilaterally adopts the mantle of designated Ramones spokesperson and ‘keeper of the legacy’. She intentionally gives the false impression that she is empowered to take the lead on, or unilaterally pursue, Ramones business.” We'll keep you updated.

Oasis announce 2025 reunion shows (UK and Ireland)

After 16 years Oasis have announced that they will be playing live again. The group announced a handful of dates across the UK and Ireland for summer 2025 and have stated that they will be also touring “continents outside of Europe” next year. The band split up in 2009 after Noel Gallagher said he could no longer continue to work with his brother Liam. The brothers have gone through several legal disputes since then and rumours of a possible reunion have been swirling for years. 2025 also marks the 30th anniversary of their album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. Check out the dates below.

Respire cancels upcoming US tour due to visa issues

Respire have cancelled their upcoming tour of the US which was set to kick off in September. The band was forced to cancel due to issues with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. The band released a statement on Instagram which reads, This one sucks a lot. Thanks to an unforgiving US immigration system, we have to cancel our upcoming September appearances. We waited months in bureaucratic silence, to be informed a couple of weeks ago that our 45-60 day processing time had turned into six months. We’ve tried everything we can and talked to USCIS, our union, and anyone available who could help. As the dates edged closer, it became clear that our hands were tied, and the only responsible thing to do was to pull the plug. To say we (all 8 of us) are sorry would be a gross understatement. We are gutted. The irony is not lost on us that a month after releasing an album on struggles around immigration, our plans would be sidelined by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. This scenario was always a fear in the back of our minds. We worked with trusted people and applied early. Yet, like thousands of others, artists and hopeful immigrants alike, we are stuck in the same alienating whirlwind of debilitating silence and waiting. While we've hosted dozens of American bands in Canada at New Friends Fest with a simple letter of invitation, the path for a Canadian band to play in the US is much more complicated and expensive. Some of these shows will go on without us, some will be cancelled – check with your local promoter. Our visa journey continues forward, at even greater expense, as we pay thousands of dollars in expedited fees to salvage some of our other plans. If you'd like to help keep us afloat while we thrash against the current, you can grab some merch or a record from our Bandcamp store – we'd be eternally grateful. We will try our best to reschedule our visit to these places just as soon as we can. See you all soon. Respire are not the only Canadian band who have had these issues in the past few months. The Anti-Queens were forced to cancel their US shows earlier this month due to the same issue. They have since been able to acquire their visas and will be rescheduling those shows. Respire released their album Hiraeth last month. Check out the post in full below.
