Long-defunct Santa Cruz-based punk rock band BL’AST! have announced that they are set to release their first album in 24 years called Blood, which will include previously unreleased material from the band and is due for release on September 3rd on Southern Lord Records. Blood was recorded sometime in the mid-’80s, when William DuVall (formerly of Neon Christ and currently of Alice in Chains) was in the band as their second guitarist.
BL’AST! guitarist Mike Neider reportedly found “some mysterious old BL’AST! master tapes” in an abandoned storage locker earlier this year, and sent the unreleased material to Southern Lord founder Greg Anderson. The tapes were apparently dusty and deteriorated after being cooped up for over two decades, but were digitized and then sent to Dave Grohl to get a proper mix. Grohl and the band worked the songs over this past June at his Studio 606.
A teaser to promote Blood can be viewed here. It is unknown whether the album will lead to a second BL’AST! reunion; the band briefly reunited in 2001.
