White Russian Records signs awesome new band Loud Love

White Russian Records signs awesome new band Loud Love

I don’t know if its the fact that I’m enjoying my first hour of listening to punk at full blast since my son was born 3 weeks ago or the glass of deserrano I just downed but holy shit I’m digging what I’m hearing out of the recent White Russian Records signing Loud Love. The […]

I don’t know if its the fact that I’m enjoying my first hour of listening to punk at full blast since my son was born 3 weeks ago or the glass of deserrano I just downed but holy shit I’m digging what I’m hearing out of the recent White Russian Records signing Loud Love. The band describes themselves as “post-hardcore, postpunk, punkrock, hardcorepunk, emo, emorevival” and I guess that’s as good a description as any. To me they sound like a slightly more melodic early Fucked Up. In any case, you can draw your own conclusions by listening to the track “Angels Maintenance” off their upcoming self-titled EP below.

Never heard of “Midnight Punk” before but Bat Signal have made me a believer

Never heard of “Midnight Punk” before but Bat Signal have made me a believer

Fuck. Yes. How have I not heard of Bat Signal already? Dear Readers, how have you not brought them to my attention earlier? Self branded as “Midnight Punk” I guess I can get on board with that. A little more gasoline than your standard “horror punk.” There’s no standup bass here or Romones-esque poppiness. Maybe […]

A little more gasoline than your standard “horror punk.” There’s no standup bass here or Romones-esque poppiness. Maybe Turbonegro meets Tiger Army? Ooowhee, those metal riffs! Anyway, the band just released a two song single “Loaded Gun / Like A Drug” and while the latter track is what absolutely caught my attention I’d be remiss if I didn’t direct you to the band’s 2017 full-length “Straight Out Of Midnight,” which I have promptly purchased only 4 songs in. Stream both below and if you dig what you hear head to bandcamp to download them for pay-what-you-want. You’re welcome.  [Read more…]

Laughing In The Face Of (skate-punk) stream new single “Running With Coffee”

Laughing In The Face Of (skate-punk) stream new single “Running With Coffee”

Skate-punk veterans Laughing In The Face Of excel in tight melodic hardcore, riddled with hooks, riffs and head-banging breaks. This is fun, fast punk with rock and metal influences, played by four broke dudes who just love doing it for the hell of it. ‘Running With Coffee’ is the band’s first video single since 2011.

It’s an anxious, sarcastic and fun shredder of a tune, showcasing some of LITFO’s adrenaline-drenched race to rush through life.

Formed in the summer of 2009, Laughing The Face of have undergone a number of line-up changes but have stuck with Lockjaw Records since their debut album ‘Lubrication of Social Anxiety’, released in 2011.

“[Running With Coffee’ is] about rushing through life, trying to fit everything in and not necessarily looking after yourself enough in the process,” say frontman Steve Lowry. “Feeling run-down yet pushing on, fuelled on caffeine and what can often seem like a constant manic rush which ultimately wears you down. Daily routines, minimal sleep and then finally things you enjoy in the remainder of time.

It’s one of maybe a few songs on this album that I think, behind the main subject, have an underlying theme of being very aware of how quick time flies. It’s also taking the piss out of the very idea that these kind of issues could even be considered as real problems. Bullshit comes in many different flavours, but you have to sing about what’s real to you and what bothers you, or some cases keeps you going.”

Keep your eyes peeled for new singles and an exiting new release from Laughing In The Face Of in the coming months.

Introducing Punk ‘n Roll act: Great Shakes

Introducing Punk ‘n Roll act: Great Shakes

Great Shakes might be comprised of members from Netherlands and Belgium but if I hadn’t read that on their FB page I would have guessed the foursome hailed from New Jersey or Gainesville. Great Shakes might be comprised of members from Netherlands and Belgium but if I hadn’t read that on their FB page I would have guessed the foursome hailed from New Jersey or Gainesville. From the harmonica on “Get A Little Closer” to the wistful chorus of “Summertime Alone” I’d peg these guys for an Americana punk act with influences ranging from Hot Water Music to Dave Hause. This isn’t the usual uninspired skate punk band you might be getting used to seeing pop out of Europe in recent years. This is soulful, rubber meets the road, punk rock with heart. The band will be releasing a self-titled full-length via Shield Recordings in October and you can get a taste of what’s to come by streaming a few of the tracks ahead of the release below.
