Hello friends, and welcome back to the Dying Scene Record Radar! If you missed me, sorry – things have been a bit crazy lately, between Dying Scene undergoing continued renovations, and my miserable job pulling me away from my extracurricular efforts. But I’m back again, with a bunch of new colorful plastic discs you may be interested in purchasing with the money your miserable job has deposited into your bank account! Let’s get into it.

First up is something I’m very excited for: Less Than Jake‘s In With The Out Crowd is finally getting reissued! This has been out of print since 2006, and prior to this there were only 1,000 copies in existence. It’s available on purple vinyl here, and I’m certain other variants will be popping up elsewhere very soon. Is this my favorite LTJ record? No. Is it the flaming pile of dogshit people make it out to be? Absolutely not! This is a solid album with some of the band’s more introspective lyricism.

Also from Less Than Jake: a new Deluxe Edition of their latest album Silver Linings. This reissue features two brand new tracks, and four acoustic versions of existing songs. It’s a 2xLP on beautiful colored vinyl, with a screen print of the cover art on Side D. Pre-order yours here.

Italian pop-punk veterans The Manges have a new record coming soon. It’s called Book of Hate for Good People, and you can listen to a few of the singles below. The record is available on blue vinyl here, and yellow vinyl here.

Skate punk fans, listen up! No Fun At All‘s new album Seventh Wave will be available to pre-order Friday, September 17th from SBÄM and DustyWax Records. There are a ton of variants – the white with black splatter will be exclusive to DustyWax, and limited to 200 copies.

Mustard Plug’s iconic 1997 album Evildoers Beware is getting the 25th Anniversary treatment. Hopeless Records has the yellow w/ red splatter LP pictured to the left (or above if you’re on mobile) on their webstore. The band has a silver variant on their own store. Grab an essential piece of third wave ska!

Speaking of third wave ska… Asian Man Records is repressing a bunch of MU330 records! This is the first time these have been in print for a while. Head over to their webstore to get your hands on these.

As always, our Canadian friends at Thousand Islands Records have some awesome stuff on the way! First up, they will be releasing California melodic punk band Sic Waiting‘s comeback album A Good Hill To Die On this fall. Check out the first single “Uncommon Veins” below, and pre-order the record here.

Also from Thousand Islands, a brand new record from German skate punks Straightline. The whole album is available to stream right now (check it out below, it’s fucking killer), and the LPs should start shipping this winter. Head over to their store to get your pre-orders in.

SideOneDummy is reissuing the Swingin’ Utters compilation album More Scared: The House of Faith Years in honor of its 25th Anniversary. Pre-order yours here.

Fat Wreck‘s 25th Anniversary reissue train rolls on, with the latest installment being Me First and the Gimme GimmesHave a Ball. One of the finest punk cover albums of all time, if I do say so myself. You can get it here (US), here (EU), and here (AUS). Yeah!

I am a steadfast supporter of underrated 90’s pop-punk bands, and Cletus is one of those bands. Hey Pizza! Records is releasing their 1999 album Horseplay Leads to Tragedy on vinyl for the first time. The record has been remastered by Mass Giorgini, and it’s available on three color variants. Grab it here.

And last but certainly not least, we have Dan Vapid and the Cheats announcing their fifth studio album Welcome to Dystopia. The official release is months away, but Eccentric Pop Records has announced a special “test pressing edition”, limited to 100 hand numbered copies on black wax. This will be available on their webstore Friday, September 16th at Noon Eastern.

And that’s all, folks! Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything we missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, send us a message on Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs. See ya next week!

Dying Scene Record Store Spotlight: Clearwater Record Shop (Tampa Bay, FL)

Hello, and welcome to Record Store Spotlight; a new column here on Dying Scene dedicated to an institution almost as American as apple pie and unfettered capitalism – the record store! Hello, and welcome to Record Store Spotlight; a new column here on Dying Scene dedicated to an institution almost as American as apple pie and unfettered capitalism – the record store!

Today, I’ll be putting the spotlight on one of my favorite local stores, the Clearwater Record Shop. Nestled in the middle of my hometown (a city most well known for being home to the Church of Scientology’s headquarters), the Clearwater Record Shop sets itself apart from other record stores with its heavy focus on used music. Rather than relying on distributors to supply new releases, owner Casey Brown has spent years building his inventory one record collection acquisition at a time. The store which spans two interconnected warehouse spaces boasts one of the most expansive selections of used CDs I’ve ever seen. Every time I visit, I leave with a stack of jewel cases a few feet high. It’s easy to get carried away when you’re met with hundreds of bins overflowing with discs, the majority of which are just $3.75 each (or six for $20!).

Sure, it’s hard to beat the ease and convenience of shopping online. But the Clearwater Record Shop goes toe to toe with Discogs prices, and I find that most of the time, they come out ahead. Also, I’ve yet to find a more enjoyable way to kill a few hours on my day off than thumbing through thousands of records and CDs, searching for worthy additions to my collection. It’s a visceral experience that can’t be matched by browsing an online marketplace. Finding a record like The Clash’s Combat Rock for $15, and not having to wait an eternity for USPS to deliver it is icing on the cake. My only complaint about this store is that the selection is literally overwhelming. If you’re on a budget, you might have to get a little picky as your stack grows taller.

In the cooler months (yes, we sometimes have those here in Florida), the Clearwater Record Shop acts as a host to monthly swap meets. Local record collectors and vendors are invited to set up tables in the parking lot to sell their wares. These events serve as a great meeting place for the community, and are a highlight of winter and spring for me. The first time we attended, I grabbed a few LPs, including the BuzzcocksA Different Kind of Tension ($10) and Billy Joel’s Songs in the Attic ($5), along with a bunch of dollar bin CDs by the likes of the Ramones, Ozzy, and Megadeth.

It’s always a fun time shopping at this store. Casey is very personable and has created something really special here. The store has a unique, inviting old school atmosphere. The selection is great, and the prices are fair. Your dollar goes a lot further here than it does at most record stores.

If you ever find yourself in the Tampa Bay area, I highly recommend stopping by the Clearwater Record Shop. With two air conditioned warehouses packed to the rafters with nothing but music, music, and even more music, you’re bound to stumble upon something that suits your fancy. Or, if you lack self control like me, you’ll probably leave with a mountain of stuff that suits your fancy.

For more info, check out the store’s website, and follow them on Instagram.

Do you have a favorite local record store you’d like to let everyone know about? Of course you do! Hit us up on Facebook or Instagram and submit your own Record Store Spotlight. The more the merrier!

Hanalei, Darien Gap, and Celebration Summer part ways with A-F Records

Hanalei, Darien Gap, and Celebration Summer have all announced that they have left A-F Records. Hanalei and Darian Gap released identical statements on their Instagram accounts which read, ”Following a rape accusation against the singer of Anti-Flag, we will be pulling the Darien Gap from A-F Records. This applies to the last Hanalei release as well. Please know that my friend that runs the record label is not in Anti-Flag, and as we do, he stands with the victim and condemns this horrific behavior. I will be selling the vinyl copies of the EP on my own, and all income from the digital and physical release will be donated to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network. It’s tragic how pervasive these incidents are. No space or community is truly safe. Thank you to Kendra and Rich for continuing to work to expose these monsters. Thanks as well to the brave individuals that are willing to speak up about their experiences. Let’s all follow their lead and try to make the world a better place.” Celebration Summer released a statement on Instagram which reads, Celebration Summer are aware of the deeply disturbing allegations against one of the founding members of Anti-Flag and our label, A-F Records. Through A-F Records management is not a party to the accusations, it is unfortunate that they have chosen not to address the issue publicly thus far. Regrettably, we (as many of our label mates have done) will be parting ways with A-F Records. We appreciate all their support t this point, but cannot in good conscience remain affiliated with the label.” American Televsion, who have an album coming out on the label next month released a statement on Facebook that reads, ”Many people have been reaching out to us since we have been working with A-F Records. The Enough podcast shook us, as it did many. We stand by victims of sexual assault. We weren’t prepared for this. Many parts of our album’s release are in motion and can not stop. We’re trying to find the best way forward. It will not include Anti-Flag.” The allegations against an unnamed singer of a political punk band that many believe to be Justin Sane surfaced on a recent episode of the enough. podcast. Anti-Flag broke up suddenly the night of July 19. Wolves & Wolves & Wolves & Wolves have also parted ways with the label. See their statements in full below.

Pity Party break ties with A-F Records

Pity Party have announced that they have cut ties with A-F Records following the allegations against an unnamed singer of a political punk band (who many believe is Justin Sane of Anti-Flag) surfaced on a recent episode of the enough. podcast. The band released a statement on Instagram which reads, ”Hi friends, we want to take a second to address the horrible news that came out earlier this week about a band that we once looked up to for many years. First and foremost, we want to speak directly to the victims of this monster and any one else who is a victim of Sexual Abuse: we SEE you, we HEAR you, we BELIEVE you. We will continue to show up for you and continue to police our scene in order to keep you safe, to keep ourselves safe, to keep our community safe. We only have one another, so we have to lookout for each other. We wanted to also update you on our affiliation with A-F Records. While we do know that the fine people who run the record label had nothing to do with these acts and we have never dealt with the abuser himself directly during our time on the label, we feel it isn’t right for us to continue to associate with a label affiliated with this individual and are no longer an A-F artist. We were due to announce a new record out through A-F in the coming days and unfortunately have already started the pressing process. The announcement will still come and the record will be put out through SBAM alone, instead of as a joint release. We will be donating profits from the A-F share of records directly to Sexual Assault prevention and recovery organizations in both the Bay Area and Pittsburgh. More details to come. Lastly, we just want to express how heartbroken this entire ordeal has left us. As we said before, we have all looked up to this band for most of our entire musical careers. Unfortunately, monsters come in all shapes and sizes, and can be quite easy in charming you into thinking they are someone they’re not. People (predominantly men) like this get away with these heinous acts because we don’t want to believe that someone we have been inspired by, or look up to, or get along with, or have a good time with, or share similar tastes or hobbies, could be capable of doing such things. WE HAVE TO DO BETTER. WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO VICTIMS. WE HAVE TO BELIEVE VICTIMS. WE HAVE TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO SPEAK UP. AND WE HAVE TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THESE TYPES OF PEOPLE. KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE, ALWAYS.” Anti-Flag broke up suddenly the night of July 19. Wolves & Wolves & Wolves & Wolves, Hanalei, Darien Gap, and Celebration Summer have since parted ways with the label and American Television and Reconciler have released statements about their involvement with the label. See the band's statement below.

Rational Anthem

Punk of the pop variety that doesn’t need to be defended. Think early 90’s Blink covered in salt.

Rebuilder ‘Hold On’ to a new era with A-F Records

<p>Rebuilder just laid the foundation for a future with A-F Records. The Boston group announced last week (May 31) that they’ve inked a deal with Anti-Flag’s Pittsburgh label, while simultaneously serving up their first new release since Live From 2021. Enter “Hold On,” a half-song, half-time-capsule that submerges listeners in the grueling pressure cooker we now simply call “2020.” It’s a single that’s hellbent on breaking away from the cruelty and claustrophobia of the pandemic — yet finds itself clinging […]</p>

Rebuilder sign to A-F Records, release "Hold On" video

Boston-based Rebuilder have announced their signing to A-F Records. The band has also released a video for the first single from the upcoming album “Hold On”. The video was shot and edited by Bill Fulkerson. Rebuilder released their live album Live From 2021 in 2021 and their single “Monuments” in 2020. Check out the video below.

Reconciler release statement about association with A-F Records

Reconciler have released a statement about their affiliation with A-F Records. The statement was released on Instagram and reads, ”In light of recent allegations against the singer of the band Anti-Flag, we’re compelled to clarify that we believe and support victims. We’re absolutely speechless regarding those who are suffering in the wake of these events. Our association with A-F Records has nothing to do with Anti-Flag. We don’t know them. We’ve never played a show with them. They’ve never been a part of a convo about our records. Our association with A-F Records has always been based on the truly great human beings behind the scenes there that we do know, that we have played shows with, and that we are proud to call our friends. We know as little as anyone else at this point, but we’ll surely be learning about it together from here on. This is a tragedy.” The allegations against an unnamed singer of a political punk band that many believe to be Justin Sane surfaced on a recent episode of the enough. podcast. Anti-Flag broke up suddenly the night of July 19. Wolves & Wolves & Wolves & Wolves, Hanalei, Darien Gap, and Celebration Summer have since parted ways with the label and American Television have released a statement about their involvement with the label.
