Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly* column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

Check out the video edition of this week’s Record Radar, presented by our friends at Punk Rock Radar:

I’ll acknowledge I’m late to the party on this one but I can’t just not mention it. Green Day is releasing a 30th Anniversary Dookie box set, with bonus tracks, demos, live recordings, etc. spread across 6 LPs. If you don’t need all that, they’re reissuing just the LP on baby blue colored vinyl as well. Our friends at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records have the best prices I’ve seen on these, so head over to their webstore if you wanna grab ’em.

The Wonder Years frontman Dan “Soupy” Campbell’s side project Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties are reissuing their two studio albums. We Don’t Have Each Other and Routine Maintenance are back in print on some cool pinwheel color variants. Get them both here.

It’s been a while since the Parasites put out some new music, but the wait is over. We’ll, kinda sorta. Their new 7″ EP-onymous features 5 songs they supposedly wrote for Sweet Baby 30+ years ago. So they’re old, but new to you. Anyway, the Parasites rule, get the 7″ here.

Continuing to play catch up on all the shit I missed last week, The Menzingers announced a new record. It’s called Some of it Was True and it’s coming out October 13th on Epitaph Records. Check out the first single below and pre-order the album here.

Good Charlotte’s The Young and the Hopeless gets its 2nd repress of the year. The last one was “limited” to 10,000 (still in stock here btw) while this one is limited to 500 though, so I suppose that’s notable. The black w/ lime green splatter LP comes with a copy of Alternative Press Magazine which somehow makes it worth $50. Buy it here if you’d like.

Rad Girlfriend Records‘ latest release comes from Pale Angels, a band with members in the US and UK. Their new record Plastic Legacy releases on September 8th. Check out the first single below and pre-order the LP here.

The pride of Australia, The Living End’s debut album turns 25 this year, and it’s getting reissued to mark the occasion. There’s a standard LP reissue available on red or white vinyl, and a 2xLP deluxe edition with a full live set on the second record. Jeffrey Bezos’ Amazon.com is the cheapest place to get both. There’s a black & red splatter variant of the Double LP available from Bullmoose as well; not sure if that’s the same as the one on Amazon or not.

Useless ID‘s Yotam Ben Horin and Old Man Markley’s John Edward Carey Jr. released their first album as Tommy and June in 2019. Now they’re back with a new 5-song EP called Monfalcone, produced by Fat Mike and out now on Fat Wreck imprint Bottles To The Ground. Check out one of the tracks below and get the record here.

Well, that’s all, folks. Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything we missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, leave us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs (or do, I’m not your father). See ya next week!

DS Record Radar: This Week In Punk Vinyl (One Square Mile, Sum 41, Steve Rawles (Belvedere), Pansy Division & More!)

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly* column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold […]

SoCal punk band One Square Mile’s new 12” EP Source of Suffering is out now on Sound Speed Records. It was produced by Cameron Webb, whose work you’re familiar with on releases from NOFX, Pennywise, Alkaline Trio, and the awesome new Chaser record Small Victories! Sound Speed Records has three color variants up on their store – solid yellow /100 (proceeds from this one are going to the Surfrider Foundation), translucent w/ yellow / brown /100, and translucent brown w/ gold flakes /50. Catch ‘em all!

A new variant of the new Sum 41 album Heaven :x: Hell has popped up and this one’s different. It’s on solid blue colored vinyl (limited to 500 copies) and the only way you can get it is with autographs. You can get a copy signed by the band with a black marker for $89.99, and for some inexplicable reason they also have copies signed with a SILVER market that are an astounding $139.99! Holy fuck! Why does the marker used make it worth $50 more? No fucking clue brother. These are available exclusively from Premiere Collectibles.

Staying in Canada, we got Steve Rawles from the almighty Belvedere (and This is a Standoff – both of which are better Canadian punk bands than Sum 41 I might add) whose 2011 solo album Bonus Room is being released on vinyl for the first time. Our friends at Thousand Islands Records are releasing this on translucent blue colored vinyl, limited to 250 copies. Grab your copy here – they’ve got test pressings available as well for just 10 bucks more than a regular copy. Take notes Premiere Collectibles! Or don’t, you’re probably making a fuckload off dumb fucks paying $50 extra for silver markers.

Also while you’re visiting Thousand Islands’ storefront, add this new pressing of German melodic punk band Melonball’s debut album Breathe to your cart. This pink & black half & half is the third pressing of this wonderful record. Get it here.

Fat Wreck imprint label Bottles to the Ground record artists The Meffs’ debut album What a Life is due out on September 13th. It was produced by Frank (I believe that’s short for Franklin) Turner, who has been quoted as saying “It’s a fucking beast. I’m as proud of it as I’m allowed to be” so that’s cool. Franklin sings on one of the songs on the album as well so that’s also cool. You can get it here on black vinyl, or two mystery color variants – one of which is exclusive to a bundle with a slipmat.

New from our friends at Mom’s Basement Records: Canadian pop-punk band The Follow Ups‘ brand new record Know Who Your Friends Aren’t! This one’s available on two bad ass color variants (limited to 100 copies) each, as well as black wax (limited to 100 copies as well) from Mom’s Basement Records (USA) and Faster And Louder Records (Canada). Both labels have CDs and vinyl test pressings available, too, which is bad ass.

Sounds Rad Records is repressing the latest record from band that kinda reminds me of Green Day, otherwise known as The Mr. T Experience. This second pressing of King Dork Approximately, The Album consists of 100 copies on Yellow Smoke and another 100 copies on Black Smoke colored vinyl. You can get it from soundsradical.com tomorrow – Monday, July 8th, 2024.

Also available to pre-order from Sounds Rad tomorrow: Pansy Division’s debut album Undressed. The record has been remastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering (the man behind most of the recent Screeching Weasel and MTX remasters) and will be available on violet colored vinyl.

The new Mad Caddies album Arrows Room 117 is getting a 2nd pressing (apparently the 37 color variants in the first run weren’t enough, though I’m pretty sure most of those are still available). SBAM has issued four new splatter color variants, all of which are limited to 100 copies each and can be obtained with money from their EU store.

Indianapolis 7-piece ska/dub/reggae/punk (their words, not mine) band The Operators just released their new record, incredibly creatively titled Self-Titled Second Album, on Jump Up Records. You can get it on powder blue and/or concrete colored vinyl, as well as compact disc(!), right here.

Luxembourg punk band Versus You has released a semi-career spanning compilation album called “A Collection” 2009-2024. The 2xLP set boasts a 25-song tracklist housed on yellow and red colored mechanically flattened 12” polyvinyl chloride discs (otherwise known as records by those in the trade). Get it here.

Chicago power-pop-punk band Space Age Zeros will be releasing their debut LP Strange New World on September 13th through Mystic Records. Yes, that Mystic Records. Check out the first single “Fireworks” below and pre-order the record (or CD (or both)) here.

Fraser Murderburger’s Wrong Life has released a new double A-Side single in The Politics of Projection / The Corrections. Limited Fun Records is releasing it as a clear lathe cut 7” which you can pre-order here. Profits from physical and digital pre-orders through July 26th will be donated to Scottish Women’s Aid.

And we’ll close out this week’s Record Radar with a special offer from our friends at Punk Rock Radar: The Punk Rock Radar Birthday Box! For $39 you get: 2 random records! 1 shirt! 1 sticker pack! And most importantly, the opportunity to choose the topic for an upcoming Punk Rock Radar youtube video. It’s an unbeatable offer, folks. Head over to the PRR Store and take advantage of it today. And throw a few more awesome records in your cart while you’re there – I highly recommend Making Friends’ Fine Dying, Stank Finger’s Three Finger Discount, Goldenboy’s Qualmbum, and Snackwolf’s Lunch Breakdown, but you truly can’t go wrong with any Punk Rock Radar-sanctioned release.

See ya next time!

DS Record Radar: This Week in Punk Vinyl (Operation Ivy tribute, The Vandals, Bouncing Souls & more)

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold […]

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

We’re starting off this week’s column with a huuuuuge Operation Ivy tribute comp from Lavasocks Records and Sell The Heart Records. The Double LP titled Mooorree Than Just Another Comp features 33 Op Ivy covers from bands like The Chinkees, Catbite, Flying Racoon Suit & more. There are a bunch of color variants available here and here.

Earlier this week, your friends at Dying Scene hosted the exclusive premiere of a new song by North Carolina’s Wolves & Wolves & Wolves & Wolves. “Oh Catalonia” comes from the band’s upcoming album cursecursecurse, due out April 7th on A-F Records and Gunner Records. Check out the single below and pre-order the record here.

Belgian punks The Priceduifkes‘ new self-titled LP compiles 21 tracks from a bunch of previously released EPs and it actually flows pretty well as a full-length album. If you’ve never heard of these guys, this record is a perfect introduction to their high octane brand of pop-punk. Listen below and grab it on vinyl here (US) or here (EU).

Fat Wreck Chords imprint Bottles To The Ground put out a few new releases this week, the first of which is Bottle Music for Broken People. This sampler comp features a brand new track from the label’s newest signing Fishbone, along with songs by Codefendants, The Meffs & more. Check out the Fishbone single below and grab the LP here.

Bottles To The Ground’s other release comes from The Meffs. The Essex, UK two piece’s new 10″ EP Broken Britain Pt. 2 was produced by Frank Turner. Check out the music video for one of the tracks below and grab the wax here (US) or here (UK exclusive variant).

Our friends at Dead Broke Rekerds have issued a second pressing of their Fifteen – The Choice of a New Generation reissue. There are 257 copies on black vinyl, and 100 of each color variant. Head over to their webstore to grab your copy of this East Bay punk classic.

Listen up, true believers! The Bouncing SoulsAnchors Aweigh turns 20 this year and to mark the occasion, it’s back in print on colored wax! 500 copies on “toxic green” colored wax, to be specific. Get it here.

The VandalsHollywood Potato Chip is getting a new pressing on blue/white haze colored vinyl. I’ve seen this available to pre-order pretty much everywhere, but Amazon‘s probably the cheapest option with free Prime shipping. Or if you’re really frugal and don’t give a shit about color variants, the black LP is also on sale for $16 on Amazon.

RECORD OF THE WEEK

It’s been a while since we featured a Record of the Week(!) on the Record Radar, but what better way to end the streak than with a killer new record from a Canadian pop-punk band? Hellaphant‘s debut LP Crumble and Rise caught me by surprise in the best way possible. Listen below and grab it on vinyl here (shipping to the US is very reasonably priced!). And don’t forget to tell ’em your pals at Dying Scene sent ya!

That’s all, folks. DS Record Radar: This Week in Punk Vinyl (Rancid, Sum 41, The Dwarves & More)

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us!

Rancid’s Indestructible turns 20 this year and gets a Double LP anniversary reissue to mark the occasion. Get it on “Red w/ Black Galaxy” colored vinyl here.

Good news/bad news for my fellow Mighty Mighty Bosstones appreciators. Good news: Let’s Face It is being repressed for the first time in 7 years. Bad news: That shit sold out in like a day. No clue how many copies were pressed on this new red & white splatter variant, but I gots mine. Sorry if you missed out, maybe bookmark this page or something and hope for a restock?

Universal also threw up a bunch of new pressings of old Sum 41 records on their store. Head over here to get All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected? & the All the Good Shit compilation (first time on vinyl for this one btw) on some purdy new color variants. They just released a pretty dogshit new single as well, but let’s not talk about that.

New release alert! The Dwarves have a new album on the way. Concept Album is due out November 3rd; there are a bunch of variants (colors, alternate cover art, autographed, etc.) up for pre-order on their webstore. Check out the music video for the lead single:

Another anniversary reissue, Millencolin’s Machine 15 celebrates its 15th birthday this year. This is the album’s first time on vinyl since its original release in 2008. There are 300 copies on clear wax (buy here), 700 on silver (SOLD OUT), and 1,000 on clear & blue mix colored vinyl (buy here).

Here’s another one the Record Radar is late to the party on because I’m fucking lazy and have only been doing these bi-weekly lately. I like cataloging this shit though so I’ll mention it anyways. The long awaited reissue of Reel Big Fish’s breakout album Turn the Radio Off has arrived and all 5 color variants sold out in like an hour, even the grossly overpriced AP Magazine Exclusive variant! I’m a degenerate so I set an alarm and snagged the pink & yellow splatter one like a minute after pre-orders went live.

Fat Mike’s Bottles to the Ground Records has some new records out this week, including a new 10” EP from Doom Scroll + the first-ever vinyl release of their debut album Immoral Compass. Get ‘em both here. And just look at those variants!

Ramonescore appreciators, do not sleep on the new Bad Secret record, out now on Hey Pizza! Records. Check out a few awesome songs below and get Land Over on pink colored wax here.

Would it really be the Record Radar if we didn’t talk about some new Bad Religion pressings? Absolutely not! On tap this week is some new color variants for New Maps of Hell (very underrated album, in my opinion) and The Dissent of Man. New Maps has a new red/black variant exclusive to the band’s US store, and Dissent has two new variants: green/blue (US store) and “Skull Gold” (EU store).

Very good news! After being stuck in the purgatory of licensing hell for years, Porterhouse Records’ green vinyl reissue of ALL’s Pummel has been pressed and is shipping! I pre-ordered my copy a little over a year ago and was thrilled to get the shipping notification the other day. They still have some copies in stock; head over to the label’s webstore and get yours. This is sure to be a bitchin’ reissue and for $17 you’d be an idiot to pass on it.

Last up on this week’s column is a brand new album from Neck Deep, due out early next year on Hopeless Records. Check out a few tracks from the band’s upcoming self-titled LP below and go here for links to all the places you can get the ultra-limited color variants.

Starting us off this week is a new pressing of The VandalsFear of a Punk Planet, with two snazzy color variants. The pink and black splatter seems to be the Indie Variant, which you can get everywhere, including Amazon. The blue and purple splatter variant can be pre-ordered here. Looks like these should start shipping in November.

Probably one of the most unexpected reissues in a long time, Assorted Jelly Beans’ self-titled debut album is back in print for the first time in 27 years. Get it on red colored vinyl here.

Fat Wreck (and its imprint label) announced a bunch of stuff this week. Up first is a new 7″ from Bad Cop / Bad Cop. Check out one of the two songs below and get the record here.

The Flatliners made a theme song(?) for the San Jose Sharks, and even played it live on opening night in the Shark Tank, which is interesting because I’m pretty sure these guys are Laffs fans. Anyway, “Between Our Teeth” is being released as a 12″ picture disc. It’s $20 but the money goes to charity. Get it here.

Alright, now for the Bottles To The Ground stuff (that’s the Fat imprint label). Fat Mike had a camp fire singalong thing at his mansion with Chuck from the Mad Caddies, Brendan Kelly from the Lawrence Arms and a bunch of other individuals of note. This new 2xLP Campfire at Fatty‘s is a recording of that momentous occasion in mankind’s history. You can buy it here.

I told you about this BTTG label sampler comp a few months ago when it popped up to pre-order on Amazon. Now it’s available on colored vinyl on the label’s webstore so that’s cool.

Fine Dining is an LA punk band with members of some other bands you may know, such as 98 Mute and Eken Is Dead. They’ve got a new record called No Reservations coming out on Felony Records in a couple weeks. We recently premiered the lead single (check it out below). Pre-orders go live here this coming Monday and you’ll have some sweet color variants to choose from.

New Found Glory’s From the Screen to Your Stereo Part 2 has been released on vinyl for the first time ever. There’s a grand total of 5(!) color variants, with three available from the Drive Thru Records webstore, as well as a $40(!) Urban Outfitters exclusive on “Baby Blue with Hot Pink Splatter” colored vinyl, and a UK exclusive variant available from Banquet Records.

Providence, Rhode Island’s Structure Sounds are releasing their debut LP this Friday. Your pals at Dying Scene just might be premiering one last single from the record between now and then; stay tuned! For now, head over to Bandcamp and pre-order Light Up Your Sorrow.

Mississippi ska band Flying Raccoon Suit will be releasing their new album Moonflower on November 3rd through Bad Time Records. Check out a few tracks from the record below and go here to pre-order it on one of two color variants (or get both!).

Canadian punk legends NoMeansNo’s 1989 album Wrong is back in print for the first time in 13 years, with a new pressing on Alternative Tentacles. There are three color variants up to pre-order on the label’s webstore, as well as a red and black splatter variant you can get only get by signing up for the “Squid” or “Plague” tiers on Alternative Tentacles’ Patreon.

Last week, I told you about the 20th Anniversary reissue of Rancid’s Indestructible. At the time, there was only one color variant available, a US Indie variant on “Red w/ Black Galaxy” colored vinyl. A new clear variant of the 2xLP has since popped up on the band’s EU merch store. I’m sure there are many more to come, so I’ll keep ya posted as these trickle in.

Dying Scene Album Review: Doom Scroll – “Pyrrhic Victory”

What better than a deceptively upbeat collection of raucous guitar, mandolin, trumpet and even occasionally a washboard to shine a light on our Insta-Tok-fueled collective existential dread?   In their latest offering, the 4-track EP Pyrrhic Victory, Loveland, Colorado’s Doom Scroll deliver cautionary tales of modern-day electronic disassociation with a healthy dose of ska and […]

What better than a deceptively upbeat collection of raucous guitar, mandolin, trumpet and even occasionally a washboard to shine a light on our Insta-Tok-fueled collective existential dread?

In their latest offering, the 4-track EP Pyrrhic Victory, Loveland, Colorado’s Doom Scroll deliver cautionary tales of modern-day electronic disassociation with a healthy dose of ska and folk to help the medicine go down.

A uniquely varied crew themselves – Elliot Lozier (We the Heathens and Atrocity Solution) and Taylor Dittman (Broken Bow, Hermit Stew) are joined by Chatterbox and the Latter Day Satanist’s singer-songwriter Micah Butler, Jon Pizarro of the black metal/folk project Dead Work and Marissa Sendejas, who has pursued a longtime solo career and has been a member of CLDS, Chad Hates George and Days N Daze – their collective sound results in an upbeat, addictive collection of songs destined to make you put down the phone or computer and dive into your local mosh pit…with other humans, you know…interacting…in person!

Building on themes from their previous album, Immoral Compass, the first track, “Anoxic,” reminds us that, while the virtual world keeps our minds entertained, it is also void of elements to support human life.  But, lest you fall too hard into a spiral of despair, the delightful mandolin melody suggests that there may still be an iota of hope after all.

“Boss Fight” features Lozier’s brother, Zack, on the trumpet, and a rousing anthem asks us, “When will we see this is all fake? It’s all a show, a masquerade.”  And, again, we’re swept into a unique, circus-like sound that promises a good time can still be had, and damn the Sunday Scaries.

Rest assured, the band’s punk roots run deep, and the track “Felled Spirits” is perhaps the most pessimistic of the bunch, and, appropriately, is also the most hard-core, musically.

Legend has it that the band played on, even as the Titanic sank. Doom Scroll wants us to know that, though the spoils of human innovation may eventually be our downfall, we might as well enjoy ourselves along the way.

Pyrrhic Victory will be released October 6th, via Bottles to the Ground, Fat Wreck Chords‘ newest imprint.
