Seattle punks Dead Bars are streaming the second song “Freaks” off of their upcoming album Regulars. The new album is set to drop on May 3rd, and it is one of those under the radar, new releases you want to miss out on. These guys have that great mix of gravely vocals and shout-along choruses. It’s definitely not a sound a city like Seattle is known for (they’d probably fit in better among their peers in Jersey, Richmond, Gainesville, or even the bay area), so a lot of the album is about not being accepted.

California punks OFF! have announced that they are working on a new documentary called Watermelon: A Sci-Fi Punk Rockumentary. The trailer for the upcoming film, shows just how dysfunctional the band has become, and how getting old and touring can take a toll on both the music and the band. The official description of the film reads: “The movie, which began shooting in 2016, continues in Los Angeles five heartbreaking years after OFF! have disbanded. Keith’s hopes of landing the girl of his dreams are crushed when diabetes-induced erectile dysfunction threatens his last chance at romance. An infomercial promising powerful long-lasting erections lures Keith down a strange path to an eccentric doctor running a Brain Development Agency.”

OFF! have also announced that a coinciding album will be released with the documentary. The bands last release was Wasted Years back in 2014. With punk rock veterans Jello Biafra, Henry Rollins, Buzz Osborne and Joe Keithly all appearing in the film, at the very least it promises to be entertaining.

Charger is the new side project of Rancid’s Matt Freeman and they are streaming the first new song “Victim” off their upcoming self-titled début album. Due out May 10th via Pirates Press Records. The first taste of Charger features a very familiar sound, with the signature Rancid bass lines everyone has come to love. However, the lyrics and rest of the music is a much edgier and fast paced sound than we’ve heard from Rancid in years.

Reno punks Boss’ Daughter are streaming their contribution to the 7Seconds tribute album. “One Big Guessing Game” came off the 1999 release Good to Go. Boss’ Daughter does a great job of adding their unique sound to this 7Seconds classic. The tribute album Destroy All That Tradition which came earlier this year.

Houston and The Dirty Rats is out to set a record. They’ve recently applied to Guinness for the category of “Longest Documented DIY Tour” – or something like that 🙂 – in reference to their current tour, of which they should be right around the halfway mark, dubbed “The Dirty 100” or “100 shows in 100 days” tour.  I stopped by and spoke with the band as they came through Dallas, at the only place left for a cheap drink in Deep Ellum, Reno’s Chop Shop. We all met up and decided to chat it up for a bit in the bed of my truck parked right out back. It was a beautiful night with a near-howling wind that spoke just enough to rustle up the sensors in my phones microphone a bit, The city was wide awake on a Thursday and there were plenty of folks that took interest in our little motley anomaly in the bed of a truck in back of Renos.

A bit more than halfway through we breaked for their set, and I was thrilled with the band’s performance, and stage presence. I mentioned to Houston that he was lucky to have such a great rhythm section, and that the Dirty Rats throughout the night had expressed a level of brotherhood and comraderie that made me extremely excited to write about them. We talked about the usual stuff: DIY ethics, running your own label, dreams of being signed, ungodly amounts of malt-liquor consumption, and of course the 100 shows in 100 days. It’s a bit of a read but I’ll be damned if we didn’t just make the most adorable little punker quartet you ever did see. Also, if you or any of your friends are in a band, there’s about a 50% chance that it gets a shout in this piece as a bunch of our favorites get a mention.

Three-piece melodic hardcore unit Dead Neck have announced that they will be hitting the road this spring. The band will be performing a run of 15 dates across the UK and mainland Europe during April and May. You can check out the entire tour schedule below on the attached poster. Supports for these dates are still to be confirmed.

During the tour, Dead Neck’s latest musical offering is penned for release – a split with Italian progressive punks, Actionmen. Defections is due out on April 30 via Germany’s Mudcake Records.
