We’re six months out from the 2019 installment of Punk Rock Bowling, so you know what that means…it’s lineup announcement time!

As you can see from the epic poster above, the festival, now in its 21st year, takes place in Las Vegas next Memorial Day weekend (May 24 – 27th). The lineup is as strong as ever, with headline performances from Rancid, Descendents and The Specials and it seems to me that it’s a deeper lineup this year with a heavier nod toward the classics than the early announcements of the last couple of years. There also don’t seem to be many – if any – repeats from last year at first glance, meaning it’ll be a totally new experience with a seemingly endless run of bands young and old, big and small (shoutout to my pals in Street Dogs and Louise Distras for getting the call to go back and for local buds Radiator Rattlers for getting their first crack at the PRB goodness). It’s not often that Dying Scene covers performances at local Christmas season outdoor holiday strolls. In fact, I’m pretty sure this is the only time we’ve done it. However, it’s also not often that a band as cool as The Radiator Rattlers plays a local Christmas season outdoor holiday stroll, so this past weekend, we packed up our camera bag, headed to our old hometown, and took in a pretty awesome performance to finish out the family-friendly annual event.

As you may recall from our recent sit-down with guitarist and co-frontman Frankie Piessens, The Rattlers hail from a half-hour down the road in Haverhill, Massachusetts. However, the octet’s (Piessens, Kenny Turner on washboard and vocals, Matt Pepp on banjo and vocals, Travis Boucher on mandolin and vocals, Carla Pierce on acoustic guitar, Luke Williams on Drums and Jimbo Ritchie on bass) swashbuckling pedal steel player Jonee Earthquake has been a fixture in the New Hampshire punk rock community for…well, for as long as I’ve been alive, and I’ll be forty on my next birthday. Earlier in the week, they announced a pretty huge milestone in their career that spans about a half-dozen years; they’ll be playing the big stage at next May’s Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas! And while you wouldn’t think of “family friendly downtown holiday stroll in southern New Hampshire” as perhaps the punk rockingest of venues, the set up was very much guerrilla-style and DIY: the street was blocked to through traffic by off-duty DPW heavy equipment, and the band performed on the in between snowbanks on a sidewalk – no stage in sight – outside a dive bar in the sub-40 degree temperatures. That’s pretty punk rock if you ask us.

Screwtape

Denver based hardcore act Screwtape is back with a new EP and we couldn’t be happier! The four track album, Static releases on pretty much every digital streaming site on November 28th If you’re a more hands on type like us, the EP will also be available in hard copy and we would highly suggest picking one up at the album release show which will be hosted at The Oriental Theater on the day of it’s release. Athens, Greece skate punk quartet Bandage are to release their latest full length, Build, in the new year. To mark the announcement, the band are streaming an advance track from it.

London, UK based podcast The Wasting Time Podcast episode 17 has been released. This episode’s guest is Dylan Slocum of Spanish Love Songs, who was visiting as part of the band’s first UK and European tour.

Thrice have just uploaded their video for “Only Us,” a single from their new album Palms. Released in September, Palms is Thrice’s tenth studio album and first for Epitaph Records. 

Thrice have also announced they will support Bring Me The Horizon on their recently announced First Love Tour in early 2019. The dates will kick off on January 23 in Nashville and conclude on February 16 in Las Vegas. The 17-date tour will also include Fever 333 as support.

London-based, multi-national punk ensemble Molar are allowing fans to stream a teaser track from a forthcoming release they have with Everything Sucks Music. The EP, Straniero, is the first 12″ release from the band and will feature five tracks.

The tune Molar have selected to get you lot in the mood for Straniero is titled “Auslännerwahlrecht” and has a distinct classic anarcho punk vibe. You can check it out below. The rest of the release is scheduled for December 14.

Hard-hitting multi-influenced, communal-side project, Coercion, have just announced that they will release their latest EP on December 7, 2017.  The effort is titled Veritas and will feature seven tracks of punk-inspired, metal-tinged rock.

The band contains members of Death By Stereo, Good Riddance, Ghost Parade, Fury 66, and The Lonely Kings.

Handling the business side of the release will be Bird Attack Records. They also helped Coercion with the distribution their first EP following their return from hiatus in 2016.

Swiss melodic punks Shadows Of Defeat are to release a new album, Too Little Too Late, on December 14th. Pre-orders and an album stream are up on the band’s Bandcamp now.
