Noi!se (street punk) release new single “Mass Apathy” ft Skinhead Rob, donate proceeds to charity

Punk has never been a stranger to tackling controversial issues. On the contrary, for more than 40 years, punk has shown time and time again to be a LOUD voice of reason and unity in a chaotic, irrational and often devastating reality. True to their punk roots, Tacoma streetpunks NOi!SE tackles these issues head-on, more specifically here, the issue of gun violence and school shootings, in a very powerful, non-political way.

“Mass Apathy” (previously unreleased) is brutal, and the intentional vocal silence between verses is deafening; a symbol of lives [children] lost. The words themselves and the vocal contribution from Skinhead Rob (TRANSPLANTS/RANCID) really bring it over the top.

Stream the single below.

Unquestionably, this important song and message will spread far and wide, adding a colorful set of voices to an already loud and vibrant movement. The real goal though is to get people standing up and demanding changes to policies that endanger the lives and futures of America’s children.

In response to the recent barrage of public shootings, especially those involving school children, NOi!SE and Pirates Press Records will donate all proceeds from this song/record to several charities. In the true spirit of this band, and to make sure no voice is unheard, fans will have the opportunity to vote on the charities which will receive donations on behalf of NOi!SE and Pirates Press Records.

Three songs into Grimetime‘s debut full-length “I Think We Could Do Better” I decided I needed to write a band spotlight for them. While struggling to come up with something witty but descriptive and informative I decided that the band does it better themselves in their own bio…

“Formed during a particularly hot Northern California summer in 2016, Grimetime is another band of dumb guys singing songs about robots, romance, and rough days & nights. Taking a page from The Ramones songbook, their output is pretty simple, aside from the harmonized guitars. While their lyrical content occasionally veers off into the political realm with topics like voluntourism and transgender rights, they usually just wanna catch their crushes eye, drink a beer, and bop the night away. Having just released their first album, they’re now trying to get their name out and make some friends.”

Spot on. Stream their debut below.

Back in 2012, when I had a lot more time on my hands, I released a folk-punk compilation album called “Took Folk To Punk (still available for free download).” It featured a handful of up and coming folk-punk bands that I thought seriously deserved more attention. Since then punk frontmen-gone-solo acts seem to have overshadowed the sub-genre, and the lazy genre groupings of punk media organizations (guilty) probably didn’t help shaping perceptions of what a folk-punk band actually might sound like.

Enter Coffin Salesman, a side project of Boston-based musician Aria Rad (of The RadicalsLive Nude Girls). Fiddles, violins, organs and pianos meet electric guitar and punk rock angst. It’s what I would consider “true” folk-punk and had they been around in 2012 they very likely would have wound up alongside Mischief Brew, The Fucking Buckaroos, and all the others on “Too Folk To Punk.” Their new album “Nicrophorus Americanus” was released yesterday and if you dug at all the bands on “Too Folk To Punk” you’re going to want to stream it below.

Mest are to release their first record with the original lineup since 2005. Last week, they announced that the new music, out next year, would be on Cyber Tracks (owned by El Hefe of NOFX and his wife Jen). Cameron Webb is set to produce the new material.

In a video with DJ Rossstar,  the singer Tony Lovato discusses their new sound along with an interesting story about Green Day from 2002. Check it out below.

Mest released four albums with producer John Feldmann between 2000 and 2005 with their original lineup.  They broke up in 2006, but Tony Lovato continued the band with other musicians filling in and released one full length.  In 2015 the band reformed for the odd Chicago and LA show, and this is the first news of the original four recording together again.
