The Goddamn Gallows are releasing their sixth album, “The Trial,” on March 23rd via Sailor’s Grave Records. Their sound is somewhere between “hobocore” and “americana-punk,” fusing rockabilly, psychobilly, punk, bluegrass, and metal. Sounds like a party.

We’ve got an exclusive stream of “Down With the Ship” off the upcoming album. Vocalist/guitarist/banjoist Mikey Classic had this to say about the track:

“‘Down With the Ship’ is about the world slowly sinking into shit. A world where our leaders take advantage of the workers and pit us against each other. A world where they want to put walls up and the people down. A world where our votes don’t count. And also it’s about being eaten by sharks.”

Sounds about right. Check out “Down With the Ship” below, and look for “The Trial” on March 23rd! [Read more…]

Quebecois DIY punks Deeper Well have released their second EP. It features three new songs, plus two covers (Osker & Archers of Loaf). I’d put them somewhere near Iron Chic, but lord knows someone on Facebook will piss and moan about how that’s not right, but oh well. I dig it, and you should check out the stream below. You can pick up the EP at bandcamp for three Canadian BeaverBucks. [Read more…]

The world’s greatest power pop band that gets mistaken for a defunct sports clothing line has released their first LP, “Decisions”. I’ve been waiting for weeks to write about this, as I was granted a preview of the album after I did some awfully humiliating things behind a Casey’s General Store dumpster than involved day-old pizza, half a jar of mayonnaise, and the surrender of what little dignity I had left after I got drunk and gave out my phone number at my last family reunion. But hey, I’m in this because I love music, and I’m willing to give something like fifty-five percent or so to share the things I love.

Starter Jackets follow up their debut EP with even stronger hooks, kinkier synths, more powerier chords and even more powerier pop. Check out the stream of the album and their performance at Live From the Rock Room below to hear for yourself how great these guys are. You can buy a digital copy of the album at bandcamp.

Starter Jackets’ lineup includes Luke McNeill of The Copyrights and Hospital Job, Lanny Durbin of Attic Salt, and Fred Malcom of both Hospital Job and Attic Salt. [Read more…]

Do your summer plans feel lacking? Have you considered going to a festival at an abandoned prison in Ohio? If so, you may want to consider the inaugural Inkarceration Music and Tattoo Festival in Mansfield, Ohio. The 30+ bands include Rise Against, Suicidal Tendencies, A Day to Remember, Clutch, Black Label Society, and, stay with me here, because shit’s about to get real, Alien Ant Farm, Fuel, and Lit.

Besides the bands on two stages, the festival will include more than 70 tattoo booths, prison tours, RV camping (bring your folks! Or hey, bring your kids!), and a sideshow. It should be noted that this is the prison Shawshank Redemption was filmed in. If you’re lucky, maybe Tim Robbins will show up and crawl through a tube of shit. I can’t really think of a better way to close out a festival.

The festival runs from July 13 -15. Check out the Inkarceration website for more details. You can check out the flyer below. [Read more…]

All of that plus, scene news, super rad music from emerging punk acts and as always, plenty of bullshitting (does AP call the lead singer of The Lawrence Arms, Brandon?). Git ta listenin’, below!

Anyway, “Sunspray” is another single off Sun-0-Bathers’ debut EP, “Local Warming.” It’ll be out Friday, March 16th on Thousand Islands, Bearded Punk, Melodic Punk Style, No Affiliation, and drummer Jouke’s own label, Morning Wood.
