Check out the new video by Croy and the Boys!

Yeeeee hawwwwww!!! Today, we are psyched to debut the new video by Croy and the Boys! You might remember Croy and the Boys from their fantastic cover of Crass' "Do they owe us a living" from a little while ago. Well, now they are back with a root rockin;, knee snappin,' hoot hollerin' original. It's rad. "I get by" is a live cut from the band's newest album. It's a bit more reverential than some of the band's other more askew tracks, fully embracing classic country rock, somewhere in valley between Johnny Cash and Joey Ely. Frontman Corey Baum (aka Bad Boy Croy) spoke to Punknews about the track: "It's a song of cautious optimism… which is about as much optimism as I can muster." You can pick up the new Croy album right here and see the video for "I get by" below.

Entirety of Bandcamp Union Board laid off by Songtradr

Earlier this week, we reported that just about 50% of Bandcamp's staff was laid off when the property was sold by Epic Games to Songtradr. Interestingly, about two hours after we posted our article, we were e-mailed by Songtradr who requested that we post a "clarification. (which we did). Other sites saw the same behavior, suggesting that Songtradr was actively trying to combat the bad pr, especially since they described the massive layoffs as "50% of bandcamp employees have accepted offers to join Songtradr." At the time, songtradr did not mention that the other 50% of employees were not offered employment at all. More details have now come to light. Apparently, in the layoffs, Songtradr laid off the entirety of Bandcamp United's (the bandcamp union) bargaining team. According to various sources, all eight members of the bargaining team were let go. Songtradr claims that it did not know which employees were or were not part of the bargaining team. However, according to 404 Media, Bandcamp United invited Songtradr executives to a meeting prior to the layoffs. Songtradr did issue a statement to 404 media: "Songtradr had no access to union membership information and we executed our employment offer process with full-consideration of all legal requirements. We carried out a comprehensive, full company evaluation that involved a detailed examination of each role. This evaluation considered several factors such as product groups, job functions, employee tenure, performance evaluations, the importance of roles for smooth business operations, and whether a similar function already existed at Songtradr including our experience of running it and associated requirements.” Mathematically speaking, if a company of 118 people laid off 58 employees, and 8 were union members but the company did not know which 8 were union members, the likelihood that all eight union members would be laid off, all other factors being equal, is .00262%, or about 1/5 of 1%. We'll keep you updated.

Exclusive Videos: Watch the new video by Autogramm!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the new video by synth-driven power-poppers Autogramm! The video is for their new song "Plastic Punx" and was edited and animated by Jeffry Lee. Speaking about the song, the band said, “It seemed like right up to the day we started recording this album it might never happen, but not even being divided by an international border (during a global pandemic!) could get in our way, and I think we can all say we are glad it didn’t. Like the song says, we’re all Plastic Punx. Not hardcore punks, anarcho punks, gutter punks, or squeegee punks, but Plastic Punx. The kinda punks that don’t give a fuck, especially about how much money we’re getting at the show– as long as the venue isn’t too far from the hotel, and the hotel is close to the skatepark and/or the beach.” "Plastic Punx" is off Autogramm's upcoming album Music That Humans Can Play which will be out on November 17 via Stomp Records. Watch the video below!

Circle Jerks were in the studio… and Tim Armstrong was there

Earlier this week, Circle Jerks bassist Zander Schloss posted an interesting set of photos on instagram. The pictures showed all four of the current Circle Jerks- Keith Morris, Greg Hetson, Zander, Joey Castillo- in the recording studio. Other people were also in the pictures including Tim Armstrong from Rancid. Schloss stated, cryptically,"And just like that.. now this is happening!!!" Producer Raul Cuellar was also there. Hetson posted "click.click.click." on the psot and Cuellar responded, "was a blast." Importantly, the band did not state they are recording new material (and they didn't deny it either). They also did not state that Armstorng was anything more than a spectator at the studio. The pictures could simply be from a remastering session (though, in that case, why would the band pose with instruments and why would Joey C, who is not on any studio recordings be there?) The band could be putting together live recordings with overdubs, or they could just be hanging out and having fun. We'll keep you updated if anything develops.Edit: thanks to one of our helpful commentors, it is worth mentioning that the studio pictured is Tim Armstrong's studio.

It’s a great day to bring you another kickass DS Exclusive, this time featuring Nashville-native Borrowed Sparks‘ brand new release Let a Little Light In. The release is due out tomorrow, but out of the kindness of both our and Borrowed Sparks’ hearts, we’re bringing it to you today. So you’re welcome.

If the Borrowed Sparks name sounds a bit familiar, that’s because we released the first single “Run ‘Til You’re Dust” a few months back. It wasn’t yet public back then, but that single plays a small role in this punk-inspired Americana masterpiece. In hearing this record, I continue to hold strong to my previous statement comparing Borrowed Sparks to “the likes of Brian Fallon, Ben Nichols, and, dare I say, Tom Petty and The Boss himself.”

Mike Bay’s debut studio release came in 2020 in the form of The Prettiest One Left. Let a Little Light In is the very antithesis of what you’d call a sophomore slump. This newly released catalogue of songs adds to an already seemingly flawless track list, leaving their live show with nothing lacking. Don’t get me wrong, their debut made me a fan, but this new full-length made me a fan for life, it’s damn near fuckin’ flawless.

“Run ‘Til You’re Dust” and “Can’t Please Everyone (Hail Mary)”, the record’s first two singles, are two personal favorites. But the piano-driven farewell hymn that is “Goodbye, My Friend” deserves much recognition, further highlighting Bay’s musical versatility.

I highly encourage giving this thing a listen, but I must warn you, it’ll grip you from beginning to end. I, being a huge Brian Fallon, Dave Hause fan, found this release fitting in nicely with what has emerged as a new favorite genre of mine.

Attached below is the brand-spanking new release, along with the incredible music video for “Let a Little Light In”, filmed in the back-woods of our home state of Tennessee. Digital release comes out tomorrow, with some sick colored vinyl out later this fall (preorder now!). Cheers!
