New Sounds: Robyn gets ‘Sexistential’ on the dance floor

We’re just a few days into 2026, and Robyn is already set up to own the year ahead. And boy, do we need her. The Swedish alt-pop queen rang in the New Year with a raucous party in Brooklyn, where she debuted new music and regaled us with the classics over an 18-song set, and her unbreakable electro-pop bop “Hang With Me” is featured prominently in Netflix’s new rom-dram People We Meet on Vacation (we simply stan Emily Bader forever […]

Interviews: Captain Sensible talks the Damned's new album, Brian James, and "The Last Time"…

On January 23, The Damned release their new album Not Like Everybody Else, a tribute to the sadly departed Brian James, the band's ordinal axe-slinger. The new LP, which is out January 23, finds the band covering some of James' favorite records, including Stooges cuts, Pink Floyd tunes, and a bunch of garage-psyche from the late '60s. To that end, Punknews Editor John Gentile spoke with guitarist/bassist Captain Sensible about the new LP, James, and the band's unending quest. You can read that below.

Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (PRB's usual venue) to be converted into parking lot

Perhaps surprisingly, late last year, Punk rock Bowling announced that there would not be a 2026 installment. That may be due, in part, to a recent development regarding the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. The DLVEC is the usual, festival style, outdoor spot that hosts PRB, though in 2023, and in some other years, PRB has been in different locations. According Casino.org, the DLVEC is going to be converted into a parking lot, thereby ending, or at least significantly changing its capability to host shows. DLVEC is owned by Derek and Greg Stevens (who also own nearby hotels The D, Golden Gate and Circa). Representatives for the Stevens' insist that the change is an "evolution" and not the end of the spot as a venue. As of now, there are two events scheduled for the area in 2026. 2025 hosted over 100 events.

Unwrap the teaser for ‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’

Normally, we don’t dig too far in the past for a news item, but given that this was a dead-drop at midnight on Sunday and deserves far more attention than it got, we’re breaking the rules for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Why? Well, Cronin earned that right by being one of the best voices to emerge from the Irish Horror Revival — all you need to know that’s true is a copy of Evil Dead Rise, one of the gnarliest, […]

Bandcamp bans AI-generated music on platform

Bandcamp has announced that it will not permit any AI-generated music on its platform. Bandcamp announced this in a statement on their official Reddit account (r/BandCamp) that reads, Happy New Year, r/bandcamp! Hope you all enjoyed the Holiday Guide (bandcamp.com/2025) and your 2025 Bandcamp recaps. Something that always strikes us as we put together a roundup like this is the sheer quantity of human creativity and passion that artists express on Bandcamp every single day. The fact that Bandcamp is home to such a vibrant community of real people making incredible music is something we want to protect and maintain. Today, in line with that goal, we’re articulating our policy on generative AI. We want musicians to keep making music, and for fans to have confidence that the music they find on Bandcamp was created by humans. Our guidelines for generative AI in music and audio are as follows: •Music and audio that is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI is not permitted on Bandcamp. •Any use of AI tools to impersonate other artists or styles is strictly prohibited in accordance with our existing policies prohibiting impersonation and intellectual property infringement. If you encounter music or audio that appears to be made entirely or with heavy reliance on generative AI, please use our reporting tools to flag the content for review by our team**. We reserve the right to remove any music on suspicion of being AI generated.** We will be sure to communicate any updates to the policy as the rapidly changing generative AI space develops. Given the response around this to our previous posts, we hope this news is welcomed. We wish you all an amazing 2026. Thank you. Bandcamp Support AI-generated music is prevalent on streaming services with AI artists popping up on platforms like Spotify, who replaced King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard with an AI version of the band after they left the platform in 2025 and where AI-generated artists like Sienna Rose, The Velvet Sundown, and Broken Avenue have been charting. Bandcamp will be running Bandcamp Fridays eight times this year: February 6, March 6, May 1, August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6, and December 4.
