Catbite and Michael J. O'Connor on MASSIVE Operation Ivy tribute, listen right now!

I know it, you know it, we all know it- Operation Ivy is as good as it gets! To celebrate the iconic band, Sell the Heart Records and Lavasocks Records are releasing a HUGE Op Ivy tribute album. Not only does it include dozens of killer bands, but it also has a cover of almost every Operation ivy song ever written- including some of the super rare ones that never got a studio rendition!Mooorree Than Just Another Comp is a 33-track, Double LP and features Op Ivy cuts from We Are The Union with Eve 6, Catbite, Neckscars, Matamoska, The Raging Nathans, The Chinkees, Omnigone, Flying Raccoon Suit and more. Plus, a portion of the proceeds go to 924 Gilman. On the release, Catbite covers "Healthy body" and Michael J. O'Connor covers "Uncertain." We are THRILLED to debut each track.Speaking to Punknews, Catbite said, “We all really really like Op Ivy. They’re one of those bands that has a very special meaning to each of us, so it was a no brainer when we got asked to do a cover. As for why we picked this song, our drummer, Chris originally brought Healthy Body to the table. It’s a deep cut on the record, like the third from last song, that in our collective opinion doesn’t get talked about like some of the songs from the first half. And the sentiment of a person/people having a “healthy body” while also having a “sick mind” has always resonated with us.” O’Connor added: “Few bands hold such mythical, divine, and unknowable mysteries in my mind as Operation Ivy does. Their songs are the pages of an archaic text upon which kingdoms were built and true messages were ultimately lost. Covering “Uncertain” felt like getting to rewrite The Dead Sea Scrolls and I couldn’t have been more honored.” You can pre-order the new album right here and right here! AND, you can check out Catbite and O'Connor's tunes below, right now!

Videos: Sarah and The Safe Word: "Sky On Fire"

Sarah and The Safe Word have released a video for their new song “Sky On Fire”. The video was directed by Edward Tumulty. Lead vocalist Sarah Rose said of the song and video, “This song was inspired directly from our experiences being queer in America in 2023. We filmed this in an abandoned school that was closed in 2005, because we felt like it was appropriate – the song is about broken promises, unkind humans, and still hoping for a better tomorrow.”The song is off their upcoming album The Book Of Broken Glass which will be out April 7 via Take This To Heart Records. Sarah and The Safe Word will be touring the US and Canada with Shayfer James this spring. The band re-released their album Strange Doings in the Night in 2022 (we spoke to Sarah Rose about it in December – check that out right here!) and released their album Good Gracious! Bad People in 2020. Check out the video below.

Streams: Listen to the new track by Versus the World!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the new track by Santa Barbara, California punks Versus The World! The band is made up of members of Lagwagon and Good Riddance. The song is called “Roadsick/Roadsick” and is the first single off their upcoming album The Bastards Live Forever which was produced by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Sum 41). Frontman Donald Spence said of the upcoming album and the track, ”The pandemic gave us the opportunity to really spend time on every song, our relationship as friends and songwriters.  We’d keep our “bubble” and travel to each other’s homes to write and record music that really made our hearts pound.  I’ve never been so proud and never put as much work into a body of music like we did for The Bastards.  It’s a disparate collection of songs about divorce, shame, love and growth.  “Roadsick/Roadsick” is a bridge between the last record and what we are moving towards as a band.  I’m lucky to have shared this moment with Sean, Flip, Tony, & Pat on record.   Meeting Cameron Webb, and him signing on as our producer only made things better.  He is, in my opinion, the 5th Beatle.  Without him, Bastards may have never come out… and if it did… it wouldn’t be nearly as special. ’Roadsick’ is a band favorite for the record.  We wanted a song that felt like it kicked the door down like the DEA from the get go.  A song that after we put it out, we would have to play it live.  Writing it was a blast.  Singing it was even more fun and hearing it back still gets me stoked. Enjoy!” The Bastards Live Forever will be out May 26 via SBAM Records. Versus The World will also be playing a handful of shows in Europe this summer. Listen to the track and check out the dates below!
