After getting pummeled by fans over the fact that the decidedly not-Italian Chris Pratt was cast in a role that is somewhat defined by its thick-and-goofy Italian accent and also getting punted about the schedule like a helium-inflated soccer ball, we now finally have our first look at The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Nintendo held a big panel at New York Comic-Con on Thursday centered around their work with Illumination Entertainment over the last few years, and provided lots of […]

One of the best surprises at this year’s TIFF was Lila Neugebauer’s Causeway, a small-scale drama that reminded everybody in attendance why they appreciated Jennifer Lawrence’s work before she became “America’s Sweetheart” or whatever. As we pointed out in our review, Lawrence gives a restrained and emotional tour-de-force — like whenever Luther Vandross dropped into Quiet Storm mode — and also features an incredible performance by Bryan Tyree Henry who, at this point, just straight up needs a statuette. Apple […]

After decades’ worth of songs about flipping off your dreaded 9-to-5, Convinced Friend is finally supplying us with a middle finger for remote work culture. (Or a hearty thumbs-down, at least.) Providence artist — and recent addition to the Relief Map Records family — A.S. Wilson trudges through the malaise of working from home in his new song “White Collar,” which arrived last month (September 28). As the first single from Wilson’s forthcoming debut record, “White Collar” wears its aching […]

With a journey around the land to spread the gospel of Randall, Dante, Jay, and Silent Bob already in the chamber, Kevin Smith has officially assured us that Clerks III will in fact be open in Boston. Nestled in the latest waves of dates making up the nationwide Convenience Tour, it was announced earlier this week that Smith will be bringing the third installment of the iconic cult classic franchise to The Wilbur Theatre on December 5. Much like he […]

Earlier this week we were stoked to see Fontaines D.C. listed as openers of Arctic Monkeys’ 2023 North American tour, which hits TD Garden in September. But before the Irish post-punk band from Dublin City warms up the big stage for Alex Turner here in Boston, they’ve got a score to settle with our fair city on their own terms, and the beat goes down tonight (October 6) at House of Blues. This is the re-scheduled date from back in […]

If there are two things you can count on from Chicago based Ganser, it is stellar musicianship and extremely interesting visuals. The band have just released their excellent new three-song EP called Nothing You Do Matters that sees them diving into worrying, apathy, the existential nature of life, and the changing perception of reality with optimism and a healthy dose of humour. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with co-vocalists Nadia Garofalo and Alicia Gaines (who also plays bass) to discuss working with cutting edge technology on their music videos, songwriting, the power of the remix, the importance of sleep deprived laughter, and so much more. Read the interview below!
