This was hands down the most insane and utterly mind-blowing show I’ve ever witnessed. Killer music, snakes, an ungodly amount of fire, this show had it all. In addition, this redefined my understanding of crowd interaction and having a cult-like following. Daikaiju put on a show unlike one I had ever seen, all without singing or speaking one word the entire night.

Guillotine put on an extremely unique performance, one that was only topped by Daikaiju who was to follow. Advertised as ‘The Industrial Metal Sideshow’ on the flier, their fire dancers and serpent antics helped them live up to the title. The set was split up between several covers and originals, so their was ample opportunity for you to sing your heart out to the Misfits and Tool as well as hearing some great local hard rock.

In every Instagram post Daikaiju makes about their next upcoming show, the caption reads ‘DAIKAIJU ATTACKS [insert city here] TONIGHT-GO!!!’. The only fitting way I can think of to recount my first experience at one of their shows is to describe it as an attack.

Their entire set, comprised of fast, catchy surf-rock madness, was done without one single spoken or sung word and was played from literally every possible spot in the bar besides the stage. For about half the show, the crowd was holding the kit while the drummer was on top of the bar, hammering the shit out of his crowd-supported kit. Not only that, throughout the night, unsuspecting fans were handed instruments and told to play while utter mayhem broke out around them.

No show I’ve ever been to ranks even close to this one in terms of craziness. I was caught off-guard with this one; I expected to maybe see some fire and a good performance, but in no way was I prepared for what I saw.

Do yourself a favor and check these guys out. They tour pretty regularly and just announced another 30 date tour, so go see them before their antics get them kicked out of every bar in your state. As always, thanks for the clicks and we hope you keep coming back to the site as posts start becoming more regular. Cheers!

This Show Is Tonight: Sadie Dupuis reads from ‘Cry Perfume’ at Faces

From her work leading indie stalwarts Speedy Ortiz to her vibrant solo material as Sad13, we’re always quick to support whatever Sadie Dupuis might be doing at any given time. Tonight (October 5), she’s at Faces Brewing Co. in Malden, reading from her new book of poetry Cry Perfume alongside Michael DeForge, who reads from his own new graphic novel Birds of Maine. So that headline up there is slightly misleading, as it’s more an event than a show, but […]

Patti Smith to release new book, announces book tour

Patti Smith will be releasing a new book. It is called A Book of Days and will feature 365 photos taken during a year as well as vintage photographs. It was inspired by her Instagram account. The book will be out November 25 via Penguin and the description for the book reads, "In 2018, without any plan or agenda for what might happen next, Patti Smith posted her first Instagram photo: her hand with the simple message “Hello Everybody!” Known for shooting with her beloved Land Camera 250, Smith started posting images from her phone including portraits of her kids, her radiator, her boots, and her Abyssinian cat, Cairo. Followers felt an immediate affinity with these miniature windows into Smith’s world, photographs of her daily coffee, the books she’s reading, the graves of beloved heroes—William Blake, Dylan Thomas, Sylvia Plath, Simone Weil, Albert Camus. Over time, a coherent story of a life devoted to art took shape, and more than a million followers responded to Smith’s unique aesthetic in images that chart her passions, devotions, obsessions, and whims. Original to this book are vintage photographs: anniversary pearls, a mother’s keychain, and a husband’s Mosrite guitar. Here, too, are photos from Smith’s archives of life on and off the road, train stations, obscure cafés, a notebook always nearby. In wide-ranging yet intimate daily notations, Smith shares dispatches from her travels around the world."She has also announced a book tour and two shows in New York with her band. Check out the dates below.

John Joseph permanently barred from using Cro-Mags trademark

As you recall, a few years ago, Cro-Mags bassist/songwriter Harley Flanagan sued former singer John Joseph, asking the court to bar Joseph from using the Cro-Mags mark. That matter settled with Flanagan asserting ownership of the mark and John Joseph being granted a license to use "Cro-Mags JM."Earlier this year, Flanagan sued John Joseph for violating the Cro-Mags trademark again and the settlement agreement. Flanagan alleged that Joseph used the mark Cro-Mags JAM, which was outside of the license/settlement agreement. On September 30, this new mattered settled with papers being filed in the Southern District of New York Federla court. Joseph consented to a permanent injunction barring him from using the Cro-Mags mark, the Cro-Mags JM mnark, or an derivation thereof. As of today, Flanagan is the sole artist able to use the Cro-Mags mark. It appears the issue is FINALLY settled.
