BRICKIE’s third EP, aptly named III, flies by in a flurry of rage and hope. The Montreal-based quartet kick out four of their most urgent and energizing tracks to date, which find them ripping into eco-capitalism, talking about ongoing (and live-streamed) genocide, and celebrating the joy of connection with visual lyrics over power pop-infused punk rock. III provides listeners a place to vent frustrations at the state of the world while also reminding us of the importance of beauty, wonder, and community. III will be out on February 6 and BRICKIE will be celebrating with a record release show that night at P’tit Ours in Montreal with Chop Sue Me and Squarehead. The band will be playing Pouzza Fest in Montreal in May. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with lead vocalist and guitarist Luke Ottenhof to talk about the EP, being inspired by Chico Mendes, retaining a sense of wonder amid the horror, and so much more. Today, we are extremely excited to bring you the premiere of the new song by New Jersey-based post-screamo quartet Our Wits! The song is called “Let Me Join You” and is off their upcoming sophomore album of the same name which finds the band exploring the five stages of grief. Speaking about the album, vocalist Dean Scordilis said, "These might be the angriest lyrics I've ever written. I had been to so many funerals and had seen so many people close to me die. It became unbearable and maddening. The title 'Let Me Join You' was not a form of bargaining; it was almost like a challenge to myself to self-destruct." Speaking about the album and song, drummer Mark Boulanger said, "Let Me Join You is an exploration of grief and bereavement, both for those who have passed and for a bygone time in our lives. It's a reflection on time's passage and how this reshapes the meaning of those things we once held close. Lyrically, the title track is a howl of despair and exhaustion. It was written at a point when the tide of death in our lives was too much to bear, when the holes created by those absences seemed impossible to fill. We paired these lyrics with upbeat music as a reminder to ourselves that loss doesn't need to be processed alone. Loss, grief, despair; these emotions can and should be worked through in communal settings with those you love." “Let Me Join You”, the single, will be out digitally tomorrow and Let Me Join You, the album, will be out on February 27.
