Check out the rad new ska track by Joker's Republic

We're talkin' Joker's Republic and that means we are talkin' SKA baby! Today, we are debuting the New Jersey band's new video, "Break the Cycle"! The band describes themselves as a ska punk power trio and that seems about. They sprint forward with high tension ska striking all while keeping some Elvis Costello melody on the top. Despite the bouncy beat, the tune is about being trapped int he nine to five and not being able to break the chains of modern shackles. Singer Austen Gray adds, "“We're not really a "traditional ska" kind of band, but we do like the music. 'Break The Cycle; tries to pay homage to the more 2 Tone sound while staying true to ourselves.” You can check out the tune below!

Listen to the new song by Soraia!

Today, we are super stoked to bring you the premiere of the new track by Philly garage rockers Soraia! The song is called “Body in the Backyard” and is off their upcoming EP Confessions From the Vena Cava. Speaking about the track, lead vocalist ZouZou Mansour told Punknews, "This song was our last writing session before heading to Sweden to begin recording. Travis [Smith, bassist and backing vocalist] said,"I have an idea for a song, but I don't know if you'll go for it". I loved it immediately. It's a real and powerful statement. The song narrates the point-of-view where there’s apathy to the suffering happening in the world –or even happening down the street– until something's happening in their own backyard. I loved the dark humor in the title line. It's a harsh commentary on that human characteristic we all have – but also a truthful one. It's also a bit of a bite at people who think we should care only about things that are close to home, or whatever. Who is anyone to tell me what I should care about? It pisses me off. Also, the melody line ‘I’m digging’ in the mid-section came later and from Travis. It’s probably my favorite part of it all and has the most meaning to me." ”Body In the Backyard” will be out digitally on August 8. Confessions From The Vena Cava will be out on September 12 via Soraia Records. Listen to the track below!

Clara Kay mails away her worries on new single ‘Postcard Town’

In 2005, Augustana put Boston on the map as a locale for fresh starts with their (painfully ubiquitous) song “Boston.” But where do Bostonians go to begin anew? That’s the question Clara Kay asks in her new tune “Postcard Town,” a self-described “sailor’s anthem for anyone aching to disappear and start over.” The Boston artist’s new single, which arrived last month (July 25), offers an idyllic snapshot of life in a garden variety New England town. Salt air wafts by […]

Another Wednesday and another great day for a Dying Scene Exclusive, this time from some super great friends of mine, Wes Hoffman and Friends. Everybody out in Dying Scene-land should be fairly familiar with the quartet from the handful of interviews and releases we’ve done with them the past couple of years, but I’ll link them down below anyways.

I’m just going to go ahead and say, this thing fuckin’ rips. Aside from me loving these dudes on a personal level, there are a bunch of cool names on the production side of this release. “After Hours” comes ahead of Wes Hoffman and Friends’ sophomore record For the Better, their SBAM Records debut.

It was produced and engineered in its entirety by Gabe Usery at Encapsulated Studios in St. Louis, MO, the studio responsible for just about every Dan Vapid and the Cheats release, as well as recordings from some personal favorites, the Fuck Off and Dies and The Bombpops. Mixing duties were designated to notable A Wilhelm Scream guitarist and studio wizard Trevor Reilly at Anchor End Studios in New Bedford, MA. Mastering was kept within the Reilly family tree with Trevor’s father, Joe Reilly, mastering everything at Black and Blue Mastering in New Bedford, MA.

Wes Hoffman and Friends’ debut full length titled How It Should Be was released early last year on Jump Start Records. After moving over to SBAM Records earlier this year, “After Hours” serves as the group’s SBAM debut single, ahead of their label debut, For the Better.

What originally consisted of Wes Hoffman on lead guitar and vocals and Jacob Boyd on bass, alongside somewhat of a rotating door of members, has now solidified itself into a well oiled machine comprised of Hoffman and Boyd, alongside Luca Torretta on guitar and Hes Retnu on drums.

Be sure to check out all the great stuff that’s linked below. Alongside the audio track, below you’ll find a newly released music video for “After Hours” along with an interview I conducted a few years back with Wes and Jacob. Cheers!
