Listen to the new song by Crisis Actor!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premier of the new song by Los Angeles punk trio Crisis Actor! The song is called “Nervous Laughter” and is the first single off their upcoming album Limited Hangout. Speaking to Punknews about the track Tony Knox said, "'Nervous Laughter' came from a feeling of being persistently baffled at how disastrous events could happen one after another to the point of absurdity, and how it seemed that every person and even the systems involved in most of these situations seemed to be comically inept or cruel. We were looking out at the world and watching everything on a global and national stage seem like such a trainwreck in such an absurd way, that it felt difficult to not laugh at, yet that laughter was always an expression of anxiety more than anything else. We each brought our own personal take to it with our own lyrics but ultimately that was the seed of the idea. It came together very naturally with the driving almost dance-punk/post-punk style instrumentation that we had been jamming on. When we finally felt all the tracks for the new record, this one included, had been test-driven live long enough we ended up bringing it to House of Tomothy where we refined it even more. Given its content and the moment we felt it was the one to release as the first single off Limited Hangout.” ”Nervous Laughter” will hit streaming on March 14 and you can pre-save it right here. Limited Hangout will be coming your way later this year. Listen to the song below!

‘Novocaine’ Review: A mostly painless experience

James Dalton might have used “pain don’t hurt” as a mantra in Road House while beating the shit out of rednecks, but it’s more than just a pseudo-zen loan for Nathan Caine (Jack Quaid), the protagonist of Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s Novocaine. He was born with what’s known as CIP (Congenital insensitivity to pain), an extremely rare genetic disorder that does what it says on the tin: He can’t feel pain. At all. I’m sure that some of you […]

Zulu part ways with Anaiah Rasheed Muhammad following abuse allegations

Zulu have announced that they will be parting ways with lead vocalist Anaiah Rasheed Muhammad after allegations of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse were made against him four days ago. After the allegations come out the band played their show in Brazil without Muhammad and cancelled all of their remaining tour dates. The band has released a statement on Instagram that reads, "We are aware of the allegations brought forth against Anaiah. We stand in solidarity with all people who are victims of abuse, and condemn the mistreatment of those vulnerable in our communities. Our hearts go out to anyone who has experienced any form of physical or emotional abuse, assault, or any other act that has caused harm and taken their agency away from them. Other members of Zulu have separated ourselves from Anaiah and will no longer be working with or performing with him in any capacity. We want to acknowledge the allegations were never disclosed to us prior, and we were immediately concerned reading the detailed account. We were aware there were unresolved issues between the parties involved, but not the nature of the allegations. In regards to our previous drummer’s posts, while he was filling in on tour with us he did not disclose knowledge of these allegations other than what we understood to be issues surrounding their relationship. He ultimately did not play with us because of confusion over scheduling. We understand that this has been extremely upsetting and disappointing to anyone who supported this band, it’s message and what it’s represented. Upon our return home we have withdrawn from scheduled performances and will be officially putting this project on pause." You can see the post in full below.

These New Puritans make us emotional about construction equipment

Interviews: Running on bean brain with Shiv and Nicole of Shiv and the Carvers

Shiv and the Carvers came together in Toronto in 2022 and have been kicking out high-octane punk rock ever since. The band wasted no time introducing the world to their dynamic sound on their 2022 debut single "Meat Machine" which was quickly followed by their extremely dynamic debut EP Physical Capital in 2023. That year also saw the release of their punked-up cover of Shania Twain’s classic song “That Don’t Impress Me Much” which found bassist Annie Jane Marie of Dilly Dally joining lead vocalist Shiv Scott, lead guitarist Nicole Maxwell, and drummer Mike Wiznuk. Shiv and the Carvers are getting ready to release their sophomore EP Tell Me You Love Me Again which contains some of their most powerful songs to date. It is impossible to remain still while listening to Tell Me You Love Me Again. The four songs are absolutely electrifying whether the band is talking about the end of a friendship on the extremely cathartic opening track “Bully”, celebrating falling in love with a (hot) heartbreaker on the incredibly catchy “Danger Girl”, exploring emotional turmoil on the viscerally expressive “Meltdown”, or reflecting on consumption on the explosive closer “I Want It All”. Tell Me You Love Me Again will be out everywhere on March 14 via Twin Fang Records. You can pre-order the EP here or pre-save it here. Shiv and the Carvers will be playing their album release show at The Baby G in Toronto on March 14. The band will also be playing a handful of shows around Ontario in the spring and will be playing Pouzza Fest in Montreal in May. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with Shiv Scott and Nicole “Android” Maxwell to talk about the EP, roller derby, the classic Canadian film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, playing Pouzza Fest for the first time, and so much more. Read the interview below! This interview between Em Moore, Shiv Scott, and Nicole “Android” Maxwell took place on March 4 via Zoom and is brought to you by the magic caffeinated bean juice that keeps us all running. This is a transcription of their conversation and has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
