What do you get when you combine Canadian ska-punk band Subb and former Sainte Catherines frontman Hugo Mudie’s current band Mudie? You get Cat Songs! The new split LP from Subb and Mudie, out tomorrow on Thousand Islands Records, is exclusively streaming right now on DyingScene.com! Listen to the whole thing below, pre-save it on your preferred streaming platform, and grab the purple colored vinyl (featuring a screen printed B Side!) right here.

The front end of Cat Songs is a tribute to the late Kim Shattuck, featuring covers of The Muffs’ classics “Outer Space” and “End it All”, while the back half sees the Montreal vets covering songs from each others’ back catalogs. For their first new material in 15 years, Subb contributes their rendition of Hugo Mudie’s “Post-Pyong”; Mudie matches that with a cover of Subb’s “Rodney Dangerfield”.

Here’s some background on the split, courtesy of Subb singer Jeff Quesnel:

“In 2019, Hugo and I thought it would be cool to record something together. The death of Kim from The Muffs prompted us to do two covers as a tribute. Then, the idea of doing a version of Post-Pyong and singing in French appealed to me. It’s also documented that Hugo always wanted to be Rodney Dangerfield. So that’s how Cat Songs was born. A big thank you to the Subb boys for getting on board and to Thousand Islands Records for believing in this powerful project, Improbable project, let’s be honest.”

This premiere is brought to you in part by Punk Rock Radar. If you’d like your band’s music video to be premiered by Dying Scene and Punk Rock Radar, go here and follow these instructions. You’ll be on your way to previously unimagined levels of fame and fortune in no time!
