Interviews: Talking 'All Hard Feelings' with Tracy, Mark, and Mikey of Cross Dog

Tomorrow Peterborough, Ontario-based hardcore punk band Cross Dog will unleash their excellent third album, All Hard Feelings, into the world. The band comes out of the gate swinging on opening track “Hard Feelings”, showcasing their hard-hitting lyrics and wonderfully heavy instrumentation that will have you banging your head and singing along within seconds. If you think that they are going to calm down from there, think again! The album zips by in a blur of incredible vocal delivery, killer baselines and bass effects, and superb drums. Throughout the ten tracks, the band delivers on the album’s title and dives into a multitude of hard feelings including dealing with depression, fighting against apathy, and overcoming burnout along with fiercely advocating for reproductive rights, bodily autonomy, and an end to systemic oppression in all its forms. Cross Dog proves that even though the feelings may be hard at times, no matter what there is always hope. All Hard Feelings will be out everywhere on June 7 via Stomp Records. Cross Dog will be playing their record release party the same day at Bar 379 in Peterborough. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with lead vocalist Tracy A, bassist Mark Rand, and drummer Mikey Reid to talk about the new album, working with Scott Middleton, finding catharsis through songwriting, being inspired by Gen Z, the ongoing fight for reproductive rights, and so much more. Here at Dying Scene, we’re all about punk bands. We also like new music. Today we happen to have new(ish) music – from a punk(ish) band – to share with you! It’s a new self-titled compilation album from Milwaukee’s Tintoretto, featuring all new re-recordings of songs from the band’s initial run from 1998 through Y2K. Check that shit out below and then head over to Expert Work Records’ Bandcamp to get it on colored vinyl, black vinyl, and/or compact disc!

Here are some words from the band:

“We knew out the gate that we wanted Tintoretto to be more of a band that had a deeper range of emotion put into these songs. We wanted more adult themes and less teen angst. I think this was relatively easy to achieve due to the bitter break-up of Managra and some of the animosity we carried. The original recordings were raw and reflected our youth and frame of mind, which to me were a very important thing to remember when listening to these songs, These are the same songs, but with a sheen, a beautiful fresh coat of paint, with a fair amount of fresh material and changes made throughout”

Misuser and *BR corrode dark electronica in new music video ‘Rust’

After teetering on the precipice of an apocalypse for what feels like an eternity, it’s hard not to occasionally imagine a world that’s either razed and rotted beyond recognition. And in that vacant hellscape, a banged-up boombox sits alone, still blaring one of humanity’s final warning cries: “By the morning, it’s too late, too late.” The lyrics stem from “Rust,” the new release from Boston’s Misuser (formerly ksrmr) and *BR (Quarters of Change member Ben Roter). The pair’s new music […]

Listen to the debut EP by Endswell!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the debut EP by Madison-based post-hardcore band Endswell! The EP is called Keepsake and features four kick ass tracks. Speaking about the EP the band said,”A few years ago, our old project (redacted) fell apart and we were thinking about throwing in the towel… Until Alan showed us the main riff in “Heart Container”. This is why we decided to continue making music together. Shortly afterwards, we added Louie and Luke from local bands Tiny Voices and Kule respectively. Keepsake is everything we ever wanted to write together and is truly only the beginning. The title track was written by Maxwell and is from one of his old projects; “Spirit Blues” was written and worked on with the whole lineup; “Cruise Control” was written by Alan; and “Heart Container” came together the night the full lineup practiced for the first time. The lyrics on the EP reflect a lot of what had been going on in Maxwell’s life the last few years. They touch on topics like death, friendships falling out, and heartbreak.”Keepsake will be out everywhere on June 7 via Thumbs Up Records. Endswell will be touring the US with Fly Over States, Hey ILY, Blind Equation, and Red Sun next week. Listen to the EP below!
