Vera Sola admits her folk-noir truth is open for debate with ‘I’m Lying’

A hundred years ago back in October, Vera Sola stirred up a stylish spectrum of folk-noir emotion with “The Line”, a haunting track that had the ability to stick with the listener long after it ended. Now, the American-Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and recording artist, who studied poetry under Jorie Graham at Harvard University, returns today (December 6) with another hypnotic twirl of Americana campfire allure and vivid grayscale color titled “I’m Lying,” a cinematic single that hovers overhead like a […]

Fresh out of the mountains of East Tennessee, Dying Scene is pumped to bring you a first listen to Reckless Threat’s Goodnight, and Thanks for All of the Trauma. Their third full-length – the group’s first since adding J. Ruger on second guitar – features 11 tracks of hard-hitting, in-your-face punk rock elegance influenced by the likes of Ignite, Strike Anywhere and A Wilhelm Scream.

“Breathe” serves as the record’s lead single and chronicles the battle of overcoming suicidal thoughts. To put it frankly, I fuckin’ love this track. It’s catchy, it’s vulnerable, and it’s got the signature “Reckless Threat” fusion of melodic hardcore and punk rock that I’ve come to love so much.

You’d be doing yourself a mighty disservice by merely checking out the lead single; this thing rips from beginning to end. You’re in luck because we’ve got the whole thing linked below, along with the music video for “Breathe”.

Goodnight, And Thanks For All Of The Trauma comes out everywhere December 8 on Coffin Curse Records. Be sure to show some love to one of the hardest-working groups I know and one of the coolest labels around. As always, thanks for checking out the site, Cheers!

Vivid Bloom come into view on dynamic debut EP ‘Out of Focus’

It can be said that Boston’s cold and desolate winters yield a certain kind of isolation and loneliness. If that is indeed the case, Vivid Bloom have crafted a soundtrack to keep us in warm company through the distant spring. The Boston shoegaze band, which formed post-pandemic after two of its members first met at an Alanis Morrisette concert, released a stunning debut EP titled Out of Focus via Bandcamp this past Friday (December 1). Across an expansive three tracks, […]

This Show Is Tonight: bar italia take us by the hand in Allston

We’re not sure exactly if bar italia take their band moniker from the closing track of the greatest Britpop album of all time or via the beloved Soho cafe (probably the former, though we’re not looking it up), but details like that are unimportant when you’re one of the most buzzed about groups in the world. The striking London dream-rock trio of Nina Cristante, Sam Fenton, and Jezmi Fehmi have had a stellar 2023, playing a fuckton of sold out […]

Watch Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley in the ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ trailer

There’s a great Dave Thompson quote about how the cultural icon that Bob Marley became — you know, the joke about college dorm room walls, etc. — erased the man and obscured his great works. This is by no means limited to Marley, of course, as it happens to pretty much everyone who becomes famous enough to have their poster on a dorm room wall or, worse, a statue on the campus. Yet Marley doesn’t even have the sting of […]
