Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the new cover song by Valient Himself! The song is called “I Saw The Light” and was originally recorded by Todd Rundgren. The cover will be on his upcoming debut solo album Crooner’s Jukebox. Speaking about the track, Valient Himself said, br>"Before I lived in Richmond, we hardly ever came through here. There was one band that we would play with when we did and that was RPG. Matt Conner was the guitar player/ vocalist. He's got sort of a one man band up here now called Station Aries and when I asked him if he wanted to participate in this "project", he and his buddies Dusty and Andy had this jam basically ready to go. He's a hell of a musician and I think this is one of the best songs on the whole album. They really captured the soul of Rundgren's original. The bass, that guitar solo, the piano, it all sounds so “of the time” & truly captures the spirit of what I wanted to accomplish. I can picture us rocking this in a lounge or an old disco, or even in front of a television audience like bandstand or top of the pops. Washington, DC-based NØ MAN have announced that they will be releasing their third album. It is called Glitter and Spit and will be out on March 29 via Iodine Recordings. The band has also released the audio for the title track. NØ MAN released their album ERASE in 2020. Check out the song and tracklist below.

Sunny Day Real Estate have released a video for their first new song since 2014, “Novum Vetus”. The song is off their upcoming live re-recording of their 1994 album Diary, Diary – Live at London Bridge Studio, which will be out on May 3 via Sub Pop Records. Sunny Day Real Estate will be touring the US to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ’Diary’ in the spring. Check out the video below.

Earlier this month, Brooklyn-based punk band Eevie Echoes and The Locations released their excellent debut album, The Cons of Being a Wallflower. The album follows the band as they explore the hardships and triumphs that go along with coming out and detail the journey to self-love and self-acceptance with honest, heartfelt lyrics that open discussions around parental acceptance, religious trauma, anxiety, trust, and community. Throughout the album, they make use of dynamic arrangements that take cues from ska-punk, garage rock, emo, spoken word, and chiptune to create a killer sound that is uniquely their own. Along with centering around a journey of self-discovery, The Cons of Being a Wallflower is also a perfect example of a band coming into their own.The Cons of Being a Wallflower is out now via Ska Punk International. Eevie Echoes and the Locations will be playing their album release show on January 27 (this Saturday!) in Brooklyn, will be playing around Brooklyn next month, and will be hitting some festivals in the spring. Punknews editor Em Moore caught up with lead guitarist and vocalist Eevie Echoes over Zoom to talk about the album, working with Reade Wolcott, protecting your energy in a capitalist society, the importance of using your voice, and so much more.
