Videos: Sarah and The Safe Word: "Sky On Fire"

Sarah and The Safe Word have released a video for their new song “Sky On Fire”. The video was directed by Edward Tumulty. Lead vocalist Sarah Rose said of the song and video, “This song was inspired directly from our experiences being queer in America in 2023. We filmed this in an abandoned school that was closed in 2005, because we felt like it was appropriate – the song is about broken promises, unkind humans, and still hoping for a better tomorrow.”The song is off their upcoming album The Book Of Broken Glass which will be out April 7 via Take This To Heart Records. Sarah and The Safe Word will be touring the US and Canada with Shayfer James this spring. The band re-released their album Strange Doings in the Night in 2022 (we spoke to Sarah Rose about it in December – check that out right here!) and released their album Good Gracious! Bad People in 2020. Check out the video below.

Streams: Listen to the new track by Versus the World!

Today we are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the new track by Santa Barbara, California punks Versus The World! The band is made up of members of Lagwagon and Good Riddance. The song is called “Roadsick/Roadsick” and is the first single off their upcoming album The Bastards Live Forever which was produced by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Sum 41). Frontman Donald Spence said of the upcoming album and the track, ”The pandemic gave us the opportunity to really spend time on every song, our relationship as friends and songwriters. We’d keep our “bubble” and travel to each other’s homes to write and record music that really made our hearts pound. I’ve never been so proud and never put as much work into a body of music like we did for The Bastards. It’s a disparate collection of songs about divorce, shame, love and growth. “Roadsick/Roadsick” is a bridge between the last record and what we are moving towards as a band. I’m lucky to have shared this moment with Sean, Flip, Tony, & Pat on record. Meeting Cameron Webb, and him signing on as our producer only made things better. He is, in my opinion, the 5th Beatle. Without him, Bastards may have never come out… and if it did… it wouldn’t be nearly as special. ’Roadsick’ is a band favorite for the record. We wanted a song that felt like it kicked the door down like the DEA from the get go. A song that after we put it out, we would have to play it live. Writing it was a blast. Singing it was even more fun and hearing it back still gets me stoked. Enjoy!” The Bastards Live Forever will be out May 26 via SBAM Records. Versus The World will also be playing a handful of shows in Europe this summer. Listen to the track and check out the dates below!

Cindy offer an extraordinary tale of the ordinary on ‘Trumpet On A Hillside’

Every now and then we hear a new (to us, at least) band and begin a mad dash to learn every single thing about them. Other times, we simply freeze up, get lost in the music, and lose care about any of the details that exist beyond the boundaries of the sounds that pull us in. The latter rounds into buoyant form today (February 22) with “Trumpet On A Hillside,” the hypnotic new single from Karina Gill’s San Francisco-based project […]

This Show Is Tonight: Zolita brings weekend alt-pop to Cambridge

The kaleidoscopic alt-pop of Zolita usually makes us feel like it’s the weekend, so it’s no surprise the New York-born, California-raised songwriter and artist is playing the Friday afternoon slate at this spring’s Boston Calling. But fresh off the recent release of her Falling Out / Falling In EP, Zolita brings some weekend vibes to the midweek malaise with a sold-out stop tonight (February 22) at Sonia in Cambridge. We last caught up with Zolita exactly a year ago, when […]
