To get your properly stoked the band has premiered a music video for “Self Amusing Smile,” the first single off the upcoming release, and it’s got everything you know and love about the band wrapped up in it. Catchy hooks, plentiful transitions, and a fun loving whacky video. Check it out below.

Named as the state of Utah’s representative on Kerrang’s ‘United States of Punk’, the best punk bands from every US state. Not regulated to a mere two chords and screaming, the quartet take everything great about punk and pack it into songs varied in structure and melodies that never grow redundant. Their music smells like a sweaty basement show, tastes like cheap beer on a lamp-lit porch and feels like not wanting to go home at the end of the night.

Problem Daughter released their last album “Fits Of Disorganized Boredom” in 2016 through our very own Dying Scene Records.

Blasting out of New York City, Anarchists have released their first self titled single, Anarchists. With a total run time of nine minutes this single is a delicious little snacky cake. Throughout the entirety of the nine minutes they bring super catchy hooks and every chorus seems designed for a large group sing-a-long.

“Real Shit” opens the single with a blaring buzzy guitar blast before settling into a poppy rockabilly sound. While “July” brings a syncopated sound that is very similar to the dirty ska sounds of early Rancid, including a keyboard interlude that commands your feet to move. The last song “I’m Not Surprised” starts off as an angry look at the state of the world today but is injected with a surprising level of humor, which takes an edge off the level of pessimism presented.

Anarchists feel like they are channeling the entirety of the Hellcat Records label. They have a little bit of everything that defines that label, a touch of rockabilly, a touch of ska, a vocal delivery that is equal parts punk sneer and pop sensibility and their attitude strikes at heartfelt and poignant but not without a sense of humor. If this snack is a hint, I have my fork and knife banging on the table excitedly awaiting the full meal.

5/5 Stars

Introducing Melodic Hardcore / Skate Punk Act The Stifled (FFO Yankee Brutal, A Dying Regime)

I write this spotlight with mixed emotions. I’m stoked to have discovered a new band that I would love to sign to Dying Scene Records, but I’m f’ing pissed to not have discovered them early enough to have done so. I’m stoked to have discovered a new band that I would love to sign to Dying Scene Records, but I’m f’ing pissed to not have discovered them early enough to have done so. The Stifled is a Baltimore foursome that just released their self-titled debut EP, and if I didn’t know better I’d think this was Dying Scene Records band A Dying Regime partnered up with the singer from DS Records’ first signing, Yankee Brutal. Skate punk with metallic undertones. Melodic vocals with a healthy dose of snarls and gang shouted backups. Fast and heavy. Catchy but angry. My sweet spot. Give the EP a spin here and compare it to a couple choice tracks from Yankee Brutal and A Dying Regime and tell me I’m wrong with this comparison.

Introducing Pop Punk Act: Cassettes (FFO The 80’s + Pop Punk)

Introducing Pop Punk Act: Cassettes (FFO The 80’s + Pop Punk)

From the deep depths of battling seasonal effective disorder, and wistfully thinking about replacing my scarves and fleeced lined tights with shorts and sunglasses—the Cassettes appeared. I desperately needed a mid-January pick-me-up. I had a need for some serious feel good tunes. The Cassettes came in clutch with the release of their debut LP “Wild […]

From the deep depths of battling seasonal effective disorder, and wistfully thinking about replacing my scarves and fleeced lined tights with shorts and sunglasses—the Cassettes appeared. I desperately needed a mid-January pick-me-up. I had a need for some serious feel good tunes. The Cassettes came in clutch with the release of their debut LP “Wild Heart”. Their light-hearted and high energy 80’s flavored pop punk is exactly what I needed. What can I say; I’m a sucker for catchy 80’s music and solid keyboard solos. This band is the exact slice of summer I have been craving on this miserably cold day. Warm your soul and stream “Wild Heart” below.

“It’s the first release that more closely represents who we want to be as a band, and I’m really excited to finally share it with everyone… You can expect a lot more self-deprecation and regret.”

The visuals for “Don’t Make Me Play Bocelli” were captured by Luigi Sibona at The Ranch Studios and you can check out the videographer’s work below.
