The band’s debut full-length Fiction was released in 2019. Guitarist Quirijn Foeken says they’re taking a different approach with their second album, with songs being written and and recorded in small batches:
“We wrote our first album Fiction in two years and then recorded everything. Now we alternate: we write a couple of songs and record these. After that, we focus on another couple of songs. That’s not only faster but also makes the album better. We keep each other sharp by getting the best out of short recording sessions.”
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about Ink Bomb’s forthcoming LP.
Welcome back to the Dying Scene Record Radar, folks! We’re a day late (two days actually) and a dollar short this week, but hopefully you won’t hold that against us. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new […]
Welcome back to the Dying Scene Record Radar, folks! We’re a day late (two days actually) and a dollar short this week, but hopefully you won’t hold that against us. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. There was a lot of cool shit announced this week and this is one of the biggest Record Radars yet! So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!
Kung Fu Records has issued a new pressing of the Circle Jerks‘ Live at the House of Blues. They finally got rid of that ghastly cover art and replaced it with this much more basic, yet tasteful image of the band’s classic Skanking Man logo. Grab the 2xLP on yellow vinyl here.
Pretty sure this 20th Anniversary reissue of Blackout by the Dropkick Murphys was already announced months ago… and we covered it… but I guess these are some new color variants or something? The blue one w/ black hazy shit going on is available here. Red looks like it’s the indie exclusive variant, so that will probably start popping up in record stores soon.
Bridge The Gap is a new skate punk band releasing their debut album Secret Kombinations this March on People of Punk Rock Records. It was recorded with Bill Stevenson at the Blasting Room, so it should be good! Check out the first single below and pre-order it on red, white, and grey colored wax here.
The recently revived Drive-Thru Records continues to crank out reissues. The Movielife‘s 2001 EP The Movielife Has a Gambling Problem is getting repressed on a few new color variants. If you’re into paying 25 bucks for a 5-song EP, you can grab a copy here.
Our friends at Something To Do Records have an interesting record coming soon. It’s a long-lost LP from a Dallas pop-punk band called Ed Banky’s Car. This was originally supposed to release in 1996 but, due to some very unfortunate circumstances, it hasn’t seen the light of day until now. Check out one of the tracks below and pre-order Meanwhile in Grand Prairie, Texashere.
Radiation Records‘ pop-punk imprint Hey Suburbia has two brand new reissues up on their webstore. The first one’s a 7″ from Wimpy and Medallions, originally released in 2012. This is Wimpy from The Queers with a backing band featuring members of The Nobodys, The Leftovers, and The Connection. Pre-order here.
Hey Suburbia’s other release comes from Spanish pop-punk band Depressing Claim. It’s their 1995 LP Radio Surf, which I guess Ben Weasel gave a good review in Maximum RocknRoll if the hype sticker is to be believed. Pre-order here.
And that’s all, folks! Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything we missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, leave us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs. See ya next week!

Way back in 2014, a pop-punk supergroup named The Phase Problem was born. The band’s lineup included Flav Giorgini from Squirtgun and Fraser from the Murderburgers, among others. Nine years later, their self-titled debut album is finally going to see the light of day, thanks to Mom’s Basement Records, Brassneck Records, and Memorable But Not […]
The LP, which was produced by Jamie Ward and mastered by Mass Giorgini, is set to release on March 31st. It will feature guest appearances from Squirtgun singer Matt Hart and prolific punk drummer Dan Lumley (The Queers, Screeching Weasel, etc.). Check out three awesome songs below and stay tuned for more on The Phase Problem’s debut album.

If there’s one thing Canada’s really fucking good at, it’s churning out some of the finest skate punk you’ll ever hear. Quebec’s Colorsfade find themselves in elite company with bands like Belvedere and Mute, and their new album proves they have what it takes to hang with the big boys. This record checks all the boxes of what I look for in a skate punk record: Great songs with big choruses ✅ Excellent production ✅ Guitars taking you on a one-way trip to Riff City ✅ Built From The Wreckage earns my preliminary nomination for Shreddiest Album of 2023.
The first few songs Colorsfade premiered off Built From The Wreckage landed them a spot on Dying Scene’s Band Spotlight. After hearing those tracks – “Complaining”, “Roll of the Dice”, and “Open Book” – I knew this was probably gonna be one of my favorite albums released this year. And now that I’ve heard the seven remaining songs, I can say with confidence this album will make my year-end Top 10 list. There isn’t a single bad song in the bunch; everything on this thing is stellar. This record is right up there with the likes of Mute’s Thunderblastand This Is A Standoff‘s Be Disappointed when it comes to technically proficient, melodic punk rock.
Built From The Wreckage is much more than a barrage of guitar riffs; yes, there is a surplus of shredding, but it’s done quite tastefully so as not to overshadow the songwriting (which, by the way, is top fuckin’ notch in its own right). The album opens with a chugging bassline on “Line In The Sand”, and slowly introduces the rest of Colorsfade’s instrumental ensemble before kicking into high gear about a minute into the song. From then on, it’s a full speed ahead. Other standouts include “Reclaiming Your Own”, “We Won’t Fall”, “Society is Crumbling”, and the penultimate “Our Time to Shine”. Really, you could throw all these songs in a hat and wouldn’t risk drawing a stinker. All killer, no filler baby!
So there ya have it folks. Colorsfade fucking rules. Built From The Wreckage is an absolute scorcher of an album. I’m tired of hearing people proclaim punk is dead, because bands like these guys (and awesome labels like People of Punk Rock Records who put these records out) continue to prove time and time again that’s just not the case. Support this band. Buy the record.

I’m pretty excited about this one, gang. Jason Cruz and Howl are about to release their very long-awaited sophomore album, Wolves! The Strung Out frontman’s outlaw folk project are slated to release the record this spring on a new label known as Liars Club, a collaboration founded by the inimitable Amigo the Devil and indie powerhouse Regime Music Group. Wolves will serve as the follow-up to the band’s debut record, Good Man’s Ruin, which somehow came out nine years ago (and has been in constant rotation in yours truly’s collection ever since).
What’s even better is that we get to debut the video for the lead single, “Good Hands”! Here’s what the band’s frontman, the one-and-only Jason Cruz, had to say about the track.
This track is definitely the most ‘polished’ song on the album. I actually threw it in the trash at one point, because I had re-wrote and tweaked it so many times. Eventually it turned out to be one of the best songs on the record.
Astute viewers will notice that Howl features a retooled lineup that now includes Cruz supported by Chad Kulengoky on lead guitar, Jason Nielson on bass and Kris Comeaux on drums. Here’s what Cruz had to say about the new record:
This record was born of loss. Before the pandemic, I had lost my best friend and bass player, Chris Stein, to cancer. It took me years to start writing a new Howl record again. This new record is a reflection of me not being afraid anymore. I’ve always tried to be that way when it comes to art and music, but with Wolves I felt more free than I ever had before and just embraced it. This album is a reminder nothing ever really dies; it just turns to something else. Sometimes pain can help fuel you creatively, and in turn, guide you out of the darkness. Wolves is a record of healing, taking chances, and a new beginning.
Check out the video for “Good Hands” below, and after you’ve given it a few spins with the volume way up, check out pre-order options here.

Today marks the release of Green Day‘s 25th Anniversary Nimrod reissue. On top original studio album, the reissue also includes 14(!) previously unreleased demos and a 20-song live set recorded at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory in 1997. Nimrod XXV is available as a 5xLP vinyl box set (which Amazon is selling at a 14% discount right now), but if you just want to listen to it, you can do so below.
Nimrod was originally released on October 14th, 1997. It was Green Day’s third released on major label Reprise Records, and their fifth LP overall. It spawned hit singles in “Nice Guys Finish Last”, “Hitchin’ a Ride”, and of course, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”. The album peaked at #10 on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell over two million copies in the US, earning double platinum certification from the RIAA.
Listening to the demos included in this reissue for the first time was pretty damn cool. The Ramones “Chain Saw” cover isn’t anything to write home about, but raw recordings of songs like “Jinx”, “The Grouch”, and “Desensitized” are great. I found the original version of the acoustic track “When It’s Time” to be the most interesting (this later went on to be re-recorded for the Broadway adaptation of American Idiot).
