Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

Check out the video edition of this week’s Record Radar, presented by our friends at Punk Rock Radar:

By now you’ve probably heard that Rancid‘s got a new record coming out. But did you know there are like 20 color variants? Here‘s where you can get all of them (the ones that haven’t already sold out, at least). Check out the lead single from Tomorrow Never Comes while you wait for your record to show up in the mail:

Japanese punk legends Hi-Standard recently surprised fans with a new single called “I’m A Rat”. This is the last song they recorded with drummer Akira Tsuneoka before his untimely passing earlier this year. Fat Wreck Chords is releasing the song as a 7″ picture disc.

Listen to the track below and pre-order the 7″ here. And here’s some more info on the release from the label:

“The physical release is a picture disc featuring the “I’m a Rat” cover art on side A, and a photograph of beloved founding member Akira Tsuneoka on side B. The picture disc is a small tribute to Tsune’s immortal spirit, and all profits will be donated to his family.”

Authority Zero‘s 2002 debut album A Passage In Time is getting its first-ever vinyl release, with Music On Vinyl pressing 1,000 copies on 180g silver colored wax. This is due out in June and only seems to be available from European retailers at the moment. If you want to import a copy to the US, JPC.de is probably your cheapest option.

The Offspring‘s Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace is back in print for the first time since 2008. This 15th Anniversary reissue comes with a bonus 7″ with live recordings from Hellfest 2022 and some other goodies. More importantly, you won’t have to fork over $200 for it like original pressings on Discogs. Get your copy here.

1-2-3-4 Go! Records latest exclusive pressing is this purdy variant of Tiger Army‘s 1999 self-titled debut, limited to 1,000 copies on orange and black “tiger stripe” colored vinyl. Available now on the Oakland record store’s webstore.

Highly regarded for their cassette releases, the friendly people at Memorable But Not Honorable have announced their first foray into the world of vinyl with Saturday Morning Lineup. The 19-song compilation features covers of Saturday Morning cartoon themes from awesome pop-punk bands like The Putz, Goin’ Places, Pinoles, Atomic Treehouse & more. Check out the teaser below and bookmark this product page; pre-orders go live Friday, May 26th. They pressed 250 copies on white colored vinyl.

Asbestos Records has opened enrollment for its 2023 Subscription Club. The label says they “have some insane releases coming out including a good mix of reissues from amazing ska/punk/hardcore bands, a couple reprints we’ve been working on for years, some new releases from great bands, and some completely off the wall surprises.” Sign up and fork over your cash here.

It wouldn’t be the Record Radar without even more Alkaline Trio represses from Newbury Comics, would it? Anyway, for $45.99(!) you can get this new 2×10″ pressing of Good Mourning on red and black marble colored vinyl. 1,000 copies, available here.

Newbury’s other Alkaline Trio reissue is Crimson, on the same color variant and, once again, spread across two 10″ discs. Buy it here. It’s also worth noting that Vagrant Records has their own webstore exclusive variant of this one, and surprise surprise, it’s somehow $10 less than Newbury’s. Both of these records go for over $100 on the resale market though, so I suppose I can’t complain too much.

SoCal melodic punks Strike Twelve have signed to Thousand Islands Records for the release of their new album Last Band Standing. Check out the music video for the awesome lead single “Smart Phones, Stupid People” below and pre-order the record here. Due out June 30th.

Well, that’s all, folks. Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything we missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, leave us a comment below, or send us a message on Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs (or do, I’m not your father). See ya next week!

Matt Skiba has revealed Alkaline Trio is back in the studio recording new music. He doesn’t say whether they are working on their 10th full-length album, but his Instagram post (see below) does reveal the Chicago punk vets are once again working with producer Cameron Webb.

Webb has worked with the Trio in the past, on their 2011 acoustic album Damnesia, as well as 2018’s Is This Thing Cursed? and 2020’s 3-song E.P. He has also produced records by NOFX, Pennywise, and Motörhead, among many others.

We’ll keep you posted as more details come to light on new music from Alkaline Trio.

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

If you don’t feel like reading, check out the video edition of this week’s Record Radar, presented by our friends at Punk Rock Radar:

AFI‘s All Hallow’s EP seems to be back in print. I’ve seen the orange colored 10″ popping up on various record stores’ webstores this week. Available here and here, among other places.

SoCal punk veterans Jughead’s Revenge are back with their first new record in 20+ years. Vultures is due out May 5th on SBÄM Records. Check out the first single “I’ll Be Seeing You” below and pre-order the 12″ EP here (US) / here (EU).

The friendly people at Eccentric Pop Records launched pre-orders for two awesome records this week. The first is Dan Vapid and the Cheats‘ latest album Welcome to Dystopia. 300 copies on blue vinyl, 200 on black. Get yours here.

Eccentric Pop also launched pre-orders for Horror Section‘s new record Part II: Rewind Resurrection. One of the two variants already sold out, so act fast if you want a copy. Get it here.

Operation Ivy singer Jesse Michaels’ band Classics of Love released an EP a few years ago, and Asian Man Records is releasing it on vinyl. The first pressing of World of Burning Hate was limited to 1,000 copies, and I say “was” because the shit sold out. If you missed out, fear not: the band has confirmed a second pressing is coming. By the way, did you hear about Jesse’s new band with Tim Armstrong? Check out ̶B̶a̶d̶ ̶O̶p̶t̶i̶x̶ DOOM Regulator!

Bad Religion‘s 30 Years Live is back in print on colored vinyl for the first time since 2016. 1,000 copies on “dragon fruit” colored vinyl, to be specific. Get it here.

I’m sure you’re already aware Samiam released a brand new album this week, but did you know the East Bay punk veterans’ debut LP is also getting a spiffy new reissue? This record’s been out of print for over a decade, but that changes now! Cleopatra Records has two new variants available on their webstore.

It wouldn’t be the Record Radar if we didn’t talk about an Epitaph reissue, would it? Motion City Soundtrack‘s I Am The Movie turns 20 this year, so naturally it’s getting reissued with like 20 new color variants. Links to all the places you can buy them are here.

Newbury Comics continues its reign as the most shameless retailer in the exclusive game with another set of $35 LPs (well, one of these is $32 but I’m not giving these fuckers a pass). They’ve got two new exclusives variants from Alkaline Trio: Is This Thing Cursed? on red w/ black splatter and their split with Hot Water Music on coke bottle clear. Get ’em here, suckers.

90’s pop-punk fans, pick up this new record from The Phase Problem! The band’s lineup includes members of Squirtgun and The Murderburgers. Our friends at Mom’s Basement Records have it on yellow and green colored vinyl on their webstore, and you know what? They’re only 20 fuckin’ bucks! Crazy how a small label is able to sell records for 40% less than Newbury Comics! Also available here in the UK and on cassette here.

Brooklyn Vegan has an exclusive pressing of Braid‘s 1998 LP Frame & Canvas up on their store. Limited to 300 copies on a variant they describe as “White inside Clear w/ Blue Splatter Vinyl”. Very cool.

Two split 7″s from Hot Water Music this week:

The first is a repress of their 2022 split with Terror, back in print on two new color variants (each limited to 250 copies). Get that here.

The second is a new split with Germany’s Muff Potter. HWM’s side features a song called “Drawn”, previously only available on a New Noise Magazine flexi disc (listen below). Get this one here.

Our friends at People of Punk Rock Records are having a pretty sweet sale! Head over to their webstore before April 16th and get 25% off all music (vinyl, CDs & cassettes) and 10% off all skateboards and merch. Minimum order is $75. They’ve got a lot of great records out, including new albums from Colorsfade, Ten Foot Pole & Bridge The Gap plus some killer 30FootFall reissues. Don’t miss out!

Punk Rock Radar is releasing German melodic punk band Baxter‘s killer new album Between Punk and Bourgeoise on cassette. They’re doing 50 copies on gold tapes, 25 on purple, and 25 on black/white. Pre-order your copy here (US) or here (EU).

We’re all about supporting small independent bands & labels here at Dying Scene, so I wanna take a second to give a shoutout to the friendly people at Cat’s Claw Records holding it down over in the UK. If you wanna help them put out more awesome music, head over to their webstore and grab this bitchin’ t-shirt designed by prolific artist Wolf Mask. And buy some killer records from bands like Making Friends, Astronuts, Clayface, Mark Murphy & The Meds and many others while you’re over there!

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is the weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. It was another very busy week and we once again have a shitload of records to cover. So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

But first, new this week: It’s the very first video edition of the Dying Scene Record Radar! Presented by our friends at Punk Rock Radar:

In case you’ve been sleeping under a rock, AFI‘s Sing the Sorrow is getting reissued on vinyl in honor of its 20th birthday. Two variants have been revealed so far; the Red & Black Pinwheel Splatter” one we told you about earlier this week (get it here). There’s also a Red w/ Black Smoke color variant that was initially thought to be limited to 2,000 copies and exclusive to the anniversary show in LA, which has since popped up on the official AFI webstore. I’m sure that’ll make all those eBay flippers nice and pissed.

Most of Streetlight Manifesto‘s records are getting reissued through their own Pentimento Music Company. Everything Went NumbSomewhere In The Between99 Songs Of Revolution: Volume 1, and The Hands That Thieve are all back in print on white colored vinyl. Head over to the band’s webstore to snatch these up.

Rancid‘s And Out Come The Wolves is getting repressed on it’s like 20th(?) new color variant. This red/white marble color is limited to 1,000 copies. Epitaph‘s US store is the only place you can get it.

Also from Epitaph: a new pressing of Tim Armstrong’s lone solo album A Poet’s Life on white w/ black splatter colored wax. Once again, “limited” to 1,000 copies and the only place you can get it is Epitaph’s Kings Road Merch store in the land of the free.

And because good things come in threes, we have a third reissue from Epitaph this week. It’s the 20th Anniversary of The Weakerthans’ Reconstruction Site. If you live in Canada, you can get the “brown/apple” color variant here. And if you live anywhere else, here‘s a handy page with links to where you can buy the record depending on your region.

Alright, that’s enough reissues for now. We’ll cover more further down the page, I promise. How ’bout some new music? New music’s cool, right? Here’s some new music from another awesome Canadian band, Brutal Youth! Their first new record in seven years Rebuilding Year is due out April 21st on Stomp Records. Check out the lead single “Moonstones” below and pre-order the LP here.

Here’s a brand new record from a brand new band called Seitans! Check out these Italian Ramonescore newcomers if you’re into Teenage Bottlerocket, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, etc. And hey, they’re on Monster Zero so you know they gotta be good. Listen below and get the record here.

More new music! We’re on a fuckin’ roll, folks. Pretty sure we covered this a few weeks back, but the pre-order just went live so fuck it, we’re circling back. Manchester, UK punks Clayface‘s debut album Ailments is due out in May. It’s being co-released by Punk Rock RadarCat’s Claw Records & White Russian Records. The next stop on our punk rock trip around the world is the Netherlands, where Harsh Realms are putting out their first new album in nine years! CVLT is coming out on April 1st (those silly jokesters) via Shield Recordings. 200 copies on black wax, 300 copies on “Dracula” color vinyl. Check out the new single “Saltwater” below and grab the record here.

Aaaand back to new plastic with old music pressed into it. Cowpunk veterans the Supersuckers’ 1997 album Must’ve Been High is back in print for the first time in a long time, but that’s not all! The Steve Earle & The Supersuckers EP and the Must’ve Been High demos are getting their first-ever vinyl releases. Get ’em all here.

BL’AST!‘s 1989 LP Take the Manic Ride is back in print for the first time in over 30 years! According to the hype sticker, the album has been “sonically enhanced with an aggressive remaster from Brad Boatright”. Available on green vinyl (200 copies) here and black wax here.

Our friends at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records are always cranking out bitchin’ exclusive variants, with the latest being these Alkaline Trio records. Goddamnit and Maybe I’ll Catch Fire are each limited to 1,000 hand numbered copies. Both can be purchased for money here.

Beer City Records is releasing a new Boris The Sprinkler compilation LP called Bits O’ Boris. The record “collects a veritable cornucopia of 19 stray Boris tracks (all restored and remastered) from 1992-2003 that originally appeared on singles, compilations, and whatever else!”. There’s a shitload of color variants, all available here.

Originally released as a CD box set in 2005, The LillingtonsTechnically Unsound is finally getting the vinyl release it deserves. The 2xLP reissue features awesome new cover art from Chris Shary, and copies are going fast. Get yours here before they’re gone.

Hey, while you’re grabbing that Lillingtons record from Clearview Records be sure to pick up the new Flight Kamikaze album! These guys are a killer new pop-punk band from Denver. Listen below, buy the record here.

Dutch punks Antillectual have launched pre-orders for their new LP Together. This is being released by 20(?) labels worldwide, but Thousand Islands Records is distributing it in North America. Check out the new single “From City to City” below and pre-order Together here.

Holy shit, you made it to the end! DS Record Radar: This Week in Punk Vinyl (Frenzal Rhomb, Codefendants, ALL “Mass Nerder”, Record Store Day 2023 & more)

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. This week’s Record Radar is yuge, one of our biggest yet. Kick […]

Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

A few weeks ago, we broke the news that ALL‘s Mass Nerder is getting a 25th Anniversary reissue. The first color variant revealed was a purple/green marble LP, which sold out within a few hours. If you missed out on that one, the good news is that more variants are starting to pop up. You can grab it on “galaxy green/purple” colored vinyl from Loud Pizza Records. Stay tuned for a lot more variants.

Frenzal Rhomb announced their new record The Cup of Pestilence, due out April 7th on Fat Wreck Chords. My fellow Americans can pre-order an unspecified color variant from the Fat webstore; European friends, Kings Road Merch has you covered. Aussies have a few options: Artist First has gold vinyl, JB Hi-Fi has a brown variant and an exclusive grey LP that comes with a bonus signed print of the cover art. Check out the lead single if you haven’t already:

In other Fat-related news, NOFX frontman Fat Mike and Get Dead singer Sam King’s punk/hip hop crossover project Codefendants will release their debut LP This is Crimewave on March 24th through Fat Wreck imprint Bottles To The Ground. Colored vinyl and bundles are available on the label’s webstore. If you just want black vinyl, Target‘s the way to go – they’ve got the record listed for $15.79 (and you save an extra 5% and get free shipping with a Red Card). Amazon‘s the second cheapest option if you have Prime.

One of my favorite albums of 2022 is getting the vinyl release it deserves thanks to Shield Recordings. I gave The Windowsill‘s latest LP Focus a much-deserved five star review and have been eagerly waiting for the day I could buy it on vinyl. This record is a must-have if you’re a pop-punk fan. Grab it here (US) or here (EU). 300 copies on transparent yellow / 200 on black vinyl.

Keeping the pop-punk theme going, our friends at Stardumb Records are celebrating their 100th release in style. They’re putting out a box set with The Apers‘ first three LPs and two records’ worth of bonus tracks. If you just want the LPs, those are available individually with unique color variants as well. They have links to all the places around the world you can get these from on their Linktree.

Asian Man Records just restocked a bunch of Alkaline Trio records on their webstore. Goddamnit, Maybe I’ll Catch Fire, and the self-titled LP are all back in stock on Asian Man’s patented random colored vinyl. The pressing info says these were meant to be distributed to record stores; they’ll probably be out of stock again soon enough so act fast.

The release list has been revealed for Record Store Day 2023, set to take place on April 22nd. This is a punk site so we’ll be highlighting the punk stuff, starting with the Ramones Pleasant Dreams (The New York Mixes). “Limited” to 7,500 copies, this release has the original mixes by producer Graham Gouldman, plus three bonus tracks from the album’s recording sessions, and alternate artwork (which I can’t help but notice omits Marky Ramone). Anyway, this shit looks cool and I’m gonna buy it because I’m a Ramones fiend.

Next up we’ve got OFF! with a 12″ EP featuring 8 B-Sides from their latest album Free LSD. It’s very creatively titled FLSD EP and it’s limited to 2,300 copies on purple(?) colored vinyl. The album was bad ass, this should be good, too. Tell your local record store to stock it!

New York Hardcore legends Agnostic Front are getting in on the Record Store Day action with an expanded 40th Anniversary reissue of their debut EP United Blood. It’s limited to 3,000 copies and features a bunch of previously unreleased recordings of the band’s early material.

Frank Turner‘s Tape Deck Heart is getting a 10th Anniversary reissue with an entire bonus LP of demos tacked on. This ‘RSD First’ release is limited to 1,500 copies on maroon colored vinyl with new art and a bunch of new liner notes from Franklin. Fawk yeah!

And our last sooper punk rawk RSD release is The AdictsFifth Overture, which is getting reissued for the very first time since its original release in 1986. No bonus tracks or anything like that on this one, but apparently it comes with a new “inner bag” (whatever the fuck that’s supposed to mean). It’s limited to 2,000 copies and your local record store is the only place you’re (potentially) gonna find it.

Holy shit, you got to the end!

DS Record Radar: This Week in Punk Vinyl (The Chinkees, Alkaline Trio, Groovie Ghoulies, Samiam & many more)

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold […]

Greetings, and welcome to the Dying Scene Record Radar. If it’s your first time here, thank you for joining us! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

Asian Man Records is starting this week’s column with a bang 💥 The Chinkees‘ three full-length albums are getting their first new pressings in over 20 years! Or, in the case of 2001’s Searching For A Brighter Future, the first vinyl release ever. The Chinkees are coming! Pre-order these ska masterpieces here.

In case you somehow missed the news earlier this week, Samiam announced their first new album in over a decade. Stowaway is due out March 31st on Pure Noise Records. On the vinyl side of things, there are a ton of color variants. Our friends at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records have an exclusive (ltd. to 300 copies), which you can get here. Pure Noise has one variant left in stock on their US store and UK store. If you’re fine with plain jane black vinyl, Amazon‘s the cheapest place to grab a copy.

About a month ago Striped Music launched pre-orders for their first pressing of Screeching Weasel‘s 30th anniversary Anthem For A New Tomorrow reissue. It was limited to 500 copies on pink vinyl and it sold out in a few hours, with Striped promising a second pressing will be coming. Good news! You don’t have to wait for that second pressing because some more copies have popped up here. I’m sure shipping to the US is horrendous, but this is good for our European friends who missed out initially. Recess Records should be putting up pre-orders for their variants at some point.

Check out my review of the fully remixed / remastered 30th anniversary Anthem For A New Tomorrow!

Epitaph Records repressed a bunch of stuff this week, so we’re filing all this under Epitaph Stuff. The first piece of Epitaph Stuff is a Choking Victim‘s No Gods / No Managers, back in print on clear vinyl, limited to 500 copies. Like the other Epitaph Stuff we’ll be covering, the only place to get this is the label’s Kings Road Merch store.

Our next piece of Epitaph Stuff is a long awaited repressing of Alkaline Trio‘s This Addiction. This bad boy’s back in print for the first time since its 2010 release (can you believe that was 13 fucking years ago?! 🤯). It’s limited to 1,000 copies on “Toxic Green” colored vinyl and you can buy it with money here.

Off With Their HeadsHome turns 10 this year (time sure does fly), and it’s getting repressed for the first time since its initial release. They’re also playing the album in its entirety on their upcoming tour. Get the new black w/ gold swirl color variant (limited to 500 copies) here.

And our last piece of Epitaph Stuff is actually a new release! Santa Cruz hardcore punx DRAIN announced their new album Living Proof. It’s due out on May 5th. Check out a few tracks below and go here for links to buy all the different color variants. Or save some money and grab the black wax on Amazon.

Alright, now that Epitaph’s finished hogging the spotlight, here’s an awesome new record we told you about earlier this week, but we’re circling back to because maybe you missed it. It’s a brand spankin’ new LP from UK ska-punks Faintest Idea, due out March 31st on TNS Records and Jump Start Records. Check out the first single “Nose Dive” below and pre-order the record here (US) or here (UK).

Newbury Comics has a colored vinyl reissue of the Groovie Ghoulies‘ 1999 LP Fun in the Dark (limited to 300 copies) up on their store. Our European friends can grab an ever-so-slightly different color variant on Stardumb Recordswebstore. Shit, with how much Newbury charges for records, it might even make sense for my fellow Americans to order from Stardumb (shipping might kill it idk, it’s worth looking into though). This Lookout! Records classic is another record that’s been out of print for 20+ years.

Bringing up the rear on this week’s Record Radar is a brand new release from our friends at Punk Rock Radar. They’re putting out British punk band Clayface‘s debut LP Ailments with a bunch of other awesome labels like Cat’s Claw Records and White Russian Records. Check out the music video for the killer lead single below and lookout for pre-orders launching March 10th.

And that’s all, folks! Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs. See ya next week!

Greetings, fellow degenerates! Welcome to the latest installment of the Dying Scene Record Radar, the weekly column where we recap all the recent happenings in the world of punk rock vinyl. Some quick housekeeping: this will be our last Record Radar of 2022, as there’s a major holiday next week that you may have heard of. With that out of the way, kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time!

No Fun At All gets us started this week, with a reissue of the highly underrated (in my opinion) State of Flow. Back in print for the first time in over 20 years! There are three variants: white (200 copies), cyan blue (200 copies), and black (600 copies). If you’re in Europe, or are willing to pay out the ass for shipping to the US, La Agonía de Vivir has all three colors available on their webstore. If you wanna save on shipping, our friends at Thousand Islands Records have some copies on black wax; grab your copy here.

Alkaline Trio‘s Remains is getting its first new pressing since 2007. There are two new variants of the double LP: red w/ black splatter (available here), and white w/ red splatter (available here). These are kinda pricey, but considering old pressings fetch over $200 on Discogs, 40-ish bucks ain’t such a bad deal!

British punk veterans Snuff have announced Crepuscolo Dorato, an LP featuring live takes of songs from their latest album, which has a much longer title that I will not be copying and pasting here. Available on black wax here.

Hardcore legends 7SecondsWalk Together, Rock Together is back in print. I haven’t been able to find an official announcement regarding this, but I have seen it listed for sale in a lot of places, at a lot of different prices. Garageland is selling pictured variant for $32, while Target has the “Trust Edition” listed for $15. Sounds like February 3, 2023 is the release date.

The Manges seem to have dug up some long-lost copies of their 1999 Clean Cut Kids 7″. This four-song EP features probably their most well-known song “I Will Always Do”. Essential record for any old school pop-punk collector. Grab your copy here before they’re gone!

TNS Records‘ latest release is from up-and-coming British punks Bruise Control. The band’s debut album Useless for Something is due out in early 2023. Check out the first single below and pre-order the LP here.

And because you can never have enough British bands in your life, Liverpool’s Mark Murphy & The Meds have launched pre-orders for their sophomore album Monochrome. Give the first single a listen below and grab the wax (250 copies on smoky clear colored vinyl) here.

Punk Rock Vinyl (who you may know from their very popular Instagram page) is releasing a compilation LP, featuring songs by bands like NOFX, the Bouncing Souls, and the Raging Nathans, among many others. There are two color variants, each limited to 250 copies, with cover art by Mark de Salvo. Get your copy here.

Our friends at Mom’s Basement are back on the Record Radar once again, announcing they are now carrying releases from Japan’s Waterslide Records in their distro. They also have a bunch of old school Mutant Pop 7″s in stock now, as well as that Riverdales covers LP we told you about last week. Hit up their webstore to see what’s up.

Last but not least, we have some more holiday deals for you, courtesy of Austrian pop-punk merchants Monster Zero Records! Through the end of 2022, get 25% off your order on their webstore with code “CHRISTMAS”. Records from 7 Years Bad Luck, The Mugwumps, The Windowsill, and a ton of other great bands. Don’t miss out!

And that’s all, folks! Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs. See ya next year!

Hello, and welcome to the latest installment of the Dying Scene Record Radar! If it’s your first time joining us, thank you! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl. So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, grab a few beers, and break out those wallets, because it’s […]

Hello, and welcome to the latest installment of the Dying Scene Record Radar! If it’s your first time joining us, thank you! This is a weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl. So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, grab a few beers, and break out those wallets, because it’s time to run through this week’s new releases and reissues (and there are a lot of them). Let’s get into it!

If you missed out on the full discography box set MxPx released last year, good news! The Bremerton pop-punk veterans are releasing standalone reissues for three albums – Life in General, Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, and The Ever Passing Moment. There are three variants for each record, and these will be available on the band’s webstore Friday, November 4th at 10AM Pacific / 1PM Eastern time.

The Transplants‘ self-titled debut album turns 20 this year, so naturally it’s getting reissued. There are two variants, each limited to 1,000 copies. The US exclusive version is available here, and the European variant can be bought here. Garnier Fructis shampoo not included.

If you completely lack self control and are collecting every color variant of the new Flatliners record for some reason, I have some good (or bad) news for you! A new “lava” colored pressing has popped up, and this is the only place you can get it.

Almost 20 years after its initial release on compact disc (otherwise known as “CD” by us in the trade), Frenzal Rhomb‘s Sans Souci is getting its vinyl cherry popped. This is only being released in Australia on “Russell Crowe Shit Brown” colored vinyl. Grab it here and use code “FIRST10” at checkout to save 10% on your order.

Fat Wreck Chords has signed a new band from the UK called The Meffs – no, not The Muffs; The Meffs – and they have a 10″ EP coming soon. Check out the first single below, and grab the record here.

New pressings of three Dwarves records have popped up on Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.com. Thank Heaven for Little Girls, Sugarfix, and Blood, Guts & Pussy are all available to pre-order right now. Get on it!

Two titans of pop-punk DeeCracks and The Manges have announced a new split 7″, due out on December 2nd. It’s not available to pre-order yet, but Mom’s Basement Records will be handling the US release, and our European friends can get it from Striped Music.

And because one pop-punk split simply wasn’t enough, here’s another one from The Huntingtons and Travoltas! This 8-song split LP is also due out on December 2nd, and it’s available to pre-order right now here (US) and here (EU). There’s also a CD version that you can grab here.

Now that we got all that pesky new music out of the way, let’s get back to the reissues of old shit! Here’s one from Alkaline Trio: it’s a new pressing of their 2011 acoustic album Damnesia. Limited to 750 copies on red and white marble colored vinyl, this is only available at Newbury Comics.

Smartpunk recently announced an exclusive reissue of Yellowcard‘s 2006 album Lights and Sounds. It was pretty limited, and inevitably sold out within minutes, so they’re doing a second run on another color variant. Grab it here. Or don’t.

And finally we have British punk legends The Damned have a new live album arriving just in time for Halloween. The 2xLP titled A Night of a Thousand Vampires was recorded live in London in 2019. Links to pre-order the different color variants can be found here.

RECORD OF THE WEEK!

We here at Dying Scene are all about trying new things, so this week I’m challenging you, loyal reader, to listen to something new! Or, in this case, something kinda old that is likely new to you! This week’s Record of the Week comes from NorCal skate punks Symphony of Distraction. I’ve been listening to their 2018 album Horse on repeat for a week now. If you like fast shit, this is the right band for you! Give it a listen below, and buy the record here. Check out their new album Horseshit as well!

And that’s all, folks! Another Record Radar in the books. As always, thank you for tuning in. If there’s anything we missed (highly likely), or if you want to let everyone know about a new/upcoming vinyl release you’re excited about, send us a message on Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll look into it. Enjoy your weekend, and don’t blow too much money on spinny discs. See ya next week!

DS Festival Recap: Riot Fest Day One – Part One (9/16/22) w/Descendents, Lagwagon, Sincere Engineer and more

For the first time, Team Dying Scene had two photographers on the ground and in the pits in Chicago for the annual 3-Day Riot Fest. It was a blast to have another great photographer documenting RF. We both have our own perspectives. This is mine for day 1, Friday, September 16, 2022.   On the […]

For the first time, Team Dying Scene had two photographers on the ground and in the pits in Chicago for the annual 3-Day Riot Fest. It was a blast to have another great photographer documenting RF. We both have our own perspectives. This is mine for day 1, Friday, September 16, 2022.

On the day 1 train rides to Riot Fest, I queried those headed to Douglass Park about whom they were most looking forward to seeing play. It would have taken several pairs of hands to count how many attendees on the nearly full CTA train cars of the red and pink lines responded with Sincere Engineer. Chicago area’s Deanna Belos, performing under the stage name of Sincere Engineer, has been on a rocket ship to national stardom these past several years. It’s not hard to see why. Sincere Engineer combines infectiously great tunes with a self-effacing wit and an utterly charming stage presence. This was not her Riot Fest debut, but it was her first on one of the event’s main stages. She blasted out a set list including “Trust Me,” “Bottle Lightning Twice,” “Dragged Across The Finish Line” and of course, “Corn Dog Sonnet No.7.” That last song was the inspiration for the “Corn Dog Mosh Pit,” in which participants held up corn dogs as they slammed into each other. Back to those fans on the morning “L” rides headed to Riot Fest? Eager as they headed to Douglass Park and left Riot Fest satisfied. If Belos ever asked  “what am I supposed to do now?” I think a good response would be “pretty much whatever you want.”

Please look for an upcoming DS special feature on Sincere Engineer.

Carolsdaughter, aka Thea Taylor, from Temecula, CA, is just a couple of months shy of her 18th birthday. However, has already witnessed her song “Violent” featured in over a quarter-million TikToks. Taylor, as Carolsdaughter, has also amassed 882.7K followers on her own TikTok channel. That’s in addition to the 183K followers on her Youtube channel. But the musician/comedian demonstrated that she is no flash-in-the-pan influencer too many often assume of young people with such large social media fan bases. Her performance at Riot Fest proved this. With an appearance recalling Gwen Stefani in her No Doubt days, Carolsdaughter utilized the entire stage, running from one corner to the next, with a few pogo jumps sprinkled in whilst belting out haunting lyrics. This included the aforementioned “Violent”: “don’t make me get violent,
I want my ring back, baby, that’s a diamond,
You don’t listen anyways, I’ll be quiet
I don’t really feel like fighting” was quite captivating.

As accomplished as she is at such a young age, it will be fun keeping an eye out for her future projects. We will be listening.

Boston Manor was founded in March 2013, in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. “Datura,” the band’s latest album is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2022, to critical acclaim. The record has thus far generated three singles, “Foxglove,” “Passenger,” and “Inertia.” As with the past Boston Manor releases, its sound is a fusion of punk, emo, dance, and electronica. The band’s Riot Fest set was intense as demonstrated through “Foxglove,” one of the above-mentioned recently released singles.

There was also a nice touch by guitar player Mikey Cunniff. Cunniff appeared on stage with a sports car yellow guitar emblazoned with Topo Chico branding and wearing a Placebo t-shirt. Placebo, one of the top billed Riot Fest 2022 artists, was forced to pull out of the festival, according to a statement the band put out, “…due to unprecedented visa and logistical issues beyond our control.”

Taking Back Sunday, from my native land of Long Island, was back at Riot Fest after performing at the event in 2021. The band played a solid set much to the appreciation of many fans in the crowd. Those fans eagerly sang along as TBS ran through “Set Phasers to Stun,” “Timberwolves at New Jersey,” “You’re So Last Summer,” and “Flicker, Fader’.”

Taking Back Sunday, a Riot Fest semi-regular, was yet again a reliable part of the event and I’m sure this will be far from its last performance there.

The legendary Descendents kicked off their set with “Everything Sux.” Considering that the festival’s long-time slogan is “Riot Fest Sucks,” this was a great choice. Through nearly 30 songs, the Californians held their fans in sway as crowd surfing fans continually made it to the barricades before being pulled to safety by security personnel. In addition to the opening tune, Descendents also jammed through “I’m Not A Punk,” “I’m the One,” “Coffee Mug,” “When I Get Old,” “Merican,” “My Dad Sucks,” and “I Don’t’ Want to Grow Up.”

Descendents may sing about everything sucking but the band itself has never earned such a description.

San Diego’s Rocket From The Crypt has long been a fan favorite. With all members dressed in matching black attire with white trimmings, the group brought to mind a Mariachi band. Rocket From The Crypt had a common Riot Fest musical assignment: Playing one of its best albums in full, from start to finish.  In this case, it was the band’s penultimate album, 2001’s Group Sounds which features the very popular  “Savoir Faire,” and also includes “Straight American Slave,” “S.O.S,” “Carne Voodoo.” RFTC also performed “Sturdy Wrists”, “Glazed” and “Don’t Darlene “ from its second album Circa: Now!

Rocket From The Crypt members Speedo, Petey X, ND, Apollo 9, JC 2000, and Ruby Mars provided die-hard fans what they were looking for and it’s hard to imagine they didn’t pick up more than a few new fans in the process.

Yet another great band from California played, Goleta’s Lagwagon. The band’s walk-on music was Theme from “The Warriors” (composed by Barry De Vorzon) and its set sprinkled with humor as frontman Joey Cape led Lagwagon through a set which included “After You My Friend”, “Falling Apart,” “Wind in Your Sail,” “Island of Shame,” “Razor Burn.”

Many fans at the very front wore Lagwagon attire and appeared ecstatic that their time waiting, often crushed up against the metal barricades, paid off with an experience they’ll remember for years.

Chicago’s own Alkaline Trio matched Lagwagon and perhaps even superseded them with choice of walk-on music. This time it was a tune that had stage and security personnel, the fans, and yes even us photographer singing in hearty unison. The tune which provoked this sunshiny moment in the darkness of just past the gloaming? One of the biggest hits by the legends (and Riot Fest alums) from just 85 miles west-northwest past Chicago. Of course the tune was “Surrender” by Cheap Trick. It was glorious.

Once on stage Alkaline Trio blazed through a set which included “Time to Waste,”  “Calling all Skeletons,” “Sadie,” “Fatally Yours,” “Bleeder,” and “Radio.”

Matt Skiba, Dan Andriano and Derek Grant also had a couple of dedications to gift.

“How about a love song? How about a love song for Chicago? Tonight. Another one” proposed guitarist/vocalist Skiba as he introduced “Every Thugs Needs a Lady,” on which bassist/vocalist Andriano took the lead vocals. The conclusion of the song led to this delightful (partial) exchange between Skiba and Andriano as drummer Derek Grant sat back took it in:

Skiba “That, that was a 9 and a half.”

Andriano “Thanks buddy… see I’m getting better.”

Skiba: “I would have given you a ten I just don’t want you getting cocky on me right?”

Andriano: “I can’t be reading my clippings” …”…I get a little confidence boost though with that, thank you Matt”

Skiba: “…No problem bro.”

This was immediately followed by Skiba declaring “This song’s for the Descendents, it’s called “Mercy Me.”

Alkaline Trio capped an enjoyable day 1 for Dying Scene correspondents.

Coverage of days 2 and 3 coming soon. See below for more day 1 photos.
