Our pals at Red Scare Industries have announced they will be reissuing Chicago punk band Sludgeworth‘s long out of print Losers of the Year LP. For the uninitiated, this short-lived project was fronted by Screeching Weasel‘s Dan Vapid and also featured SW bandmate Brian Vermin on drums.
Losers of the Year was originally released on CD in 1995 through Lookout! Records. This is the career-spanning compilation album’s first-ever pressing on vinyl. It will also be getting a CD/digital release with two previously unreleased bonus tracks.
This is a highly sought after record among pop-punk collectors, and it’s going fast. Head over to Red Scare’s webstore to grab your copy (and be sure to snag SACK‘s new record while you’re there, that beast is finally available on vinyl, too!).

Screeching Weasel has announced a 30th Anniversary reissue of their 1993 LP Anthem For A New Tomorrow. The iconic pop-punk record has been out of print for over a decade, having last been repressed by Recess Records in 2012. The new reissue was remixed by Mike Kennerty, who produced the last four SW albums.
The CD version, which features four bonus tracks, is available to pre-order here. Italy’s Striped Music is pressing the record on pink vinyl (limited to 500 copies). All copies come with a poster and CD. You can pre-order that here. Recess Records will have orange, blue, and green color variants available in the US soon.
This incarnation of Screeching Weasel boasts what many consider to be the band’s definitive lineup: Ben Weasel on guitar and vocals, Danny Vapid on bass, John “Jughead” Pierson on guitar, and Dan Panic on drums. This album’s tracklist is brimming with classic songs like “Falling Apart”, “Peter Brady”, “Every Night”, “Claire Monet” and, of course, the penultimate title track. When I think of Lookout! Records and 90’s pop-punk, Anthem For A New Tomorrow is one of the first records that comes to mind.

This review is better late than never… don’t blame me, blame Dying Scene for being on “vacation”… Anyway, with MC5 playing down the street, and The Chats, Mean Jeans, and Thick playing a few towns over, I didn’t know what to expect as far as a turnout on this rainy Friday in Pittsburgh. To make things more uncertain, it was my first time at this venue, which didn’t exist before I started a decade of living in NYC and New Jersey. One thing was clear that night: people show up for The Jasons. It helped that the bill was also pretty stacked with pop punk vets, Latecomer, Jerk! (on tour from Las Vegas) and Bottle Rat, whose members have been doing the punk thing for what feels like decades.
Cattivo, in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh wasn’t at all what I expected. I expected a small – medium sized bar venue that might have a stage, or might not. I was way wrong. This is a dual-level venue that had The Jasons show being held downstairs. The room and stage were a decent size and there was a cash bar serving drinks. The room offered plenty of standing room, a lot of space for band merch, and the bathroom was acceptable. Venues like this aren’t uncommon, but it had been a while since I’ve been to one like this. Aside from the shiny curtain in the back of the stage creating the backdrop, there isn’t really anything memorable about this place. You could say the focus is on the bands, which is always a good thing.
The first band up was Bottle Rat. If you’ve been in the Pittsburgh punk scene in the last twenty years you’ve definitely seen these dudes in one band or another. There’s something about Bottle Rat that takes me back ten years or so to what I remember loving about the Pittsburgh punk sound. The best way to describe that Pittsburgh sound and Bottle Rat is an energetic, growly, anthemic, blue collar street punk style. Every song is a toe tapper, some songs are even hand clappers, and there’s just something about these guys that leaves you wanting more. This performance was no exception. You can bet I’ll be seeing these guys a lot in the future and I’ve given their album, All My Friends Are Animals a few spins since the show.
Next was Jerk!, on tour from Las Vegas, NV. I’ve been following this band since I first heard about them through Mom’s Basement Records and was immediately intrigued. Jerk! plays a sort of pop punk / ramonescore hybrid with a drummer that reminds me of Bill Stevenson both in looks and style of playing. Their set was a lot of fun and featured a ton of upbeat and poppy songs. The only album I’ve ever heard from them is “Panic Attack” and they made sure to hit a ton of songs on that album. They also performed their version of the Screeching Weasel song, “Guest List” which is always a crowd pleaser. There’s no telling when Jerk! will be back in the ‘Burgh again, but when they are I’ll be there!
The last opener of the night was Latecomer. I’ve known Zach and Pete since they were in their first band, Shuttlecocks, over a decade ago and I’ve had the pleasure of playing shows with this latest band. These guys have been killing it for years and every time they take the stage, it gets more and more polished. They dish out a brand of catchy as hell sing-along songs that never disappoint and remind me of bands like the Jetty Boys, Dopamines, older Menzingers, and an edgier Green Day. They have a few releases at this point and made sure to play songs from all of them during their set. The crowd started to really fill in around this time and everyone knew their songs and provided plenty of crowd participation. Always a great sign for a band. It was really nice to hear some of my favorite songs like “All My Friends” and “Refrigerator” live again. Latecomer has always been very active, so if you’re in the Pittsburgh area and they’re playing, be sure to check them out!
The headliner for the night were The Jasons from Crystal Lake, NJ! Boy do these dudes have a following. What’s great about them is while they play a ramonescore style pop punk, you’ll see people from all different subgenres of punk coming out to support them! I’ve seen them a few times at this point and the show keeps getting better. Mainly because The Jasons have everything… a uniformed look, between song banter, great stage presence, and a great stage show… oh yeah, the songs are also catchy too. As soon as the first note rang out, the pit opened up, fists went into the air, and the excitement started. The Jasons went on to rip through classics like, “Blood in the Streets”, “Get Fucked”, “I Wanna Be An Asshole”, “Dead Fuck”, and “J.J. Was a Headbanger”. Overall, the set was flawless, right down to the smoke machines being in sync with the music, and after a quick (and forced) encore, the set was over and so was the show.
It had been a minute since I’ve attended a show where I truly dug all the bands on the lineup. It was also nice to see a ton of familiar Pittsburgh faces and I look forward to more of these types of shows to come. Thanks to all the bands, Cattivo, and the promoter Some Die Nameless!

This is the weekly column where we cover all things punk rock vinyl; new releases, reissues… you name it, we’ve probably got it. It was another very busy week and we once again have a shitload of records to cover. So kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!
But first, new this week: It’s the very first video edition of the Dying Scene Record Radar! Presented by our friends at Punk Rock Radar:
In case you’ve been sleeping under a rock, AFI‘s Sing the Sorrow is getting reissued on vinyl in honor of its 20th birthday. Two variants have been revealed so far; the Red & Black Pinwheel Splatter” one we told you about earlier this week (get it here). There’s also a Red w/ Black Smoke color variant that was initially thought to be limited to 2,000 copies and exclusive to the anniversary show in LA, which has since popped up on the official AFI webstore. I’m sure that’ll make all those eBay flippers nice and pissed.
Most of Streetlight Manifesto‘s records are getting reissued through their own Pentimento Music Company. Everything Went Numb, Somewhere In The Between, 99 Songs Of Revolution: Volume 1, and The Hands That Thieve are all back in print on white colored vinyl. Head over to the band’s webstore to snatch these up.
Rancid‘s And Out Come The Wolves is getting repressed on it’s like 20th(?) new color variant. This red/white marble color is limited to 1,000 copies. Epitaph‘s US store is the only place you can get it.
Also from Epitaph: a new pressing of Tim Armstrong’s lone solo album A Poet’s Life on white w/ black splatter colored wax. Once again, “limited” to 1,000 copies and the only place you can get it is Epitaph’s Kings Road Merch store in the land of the free.
And because good things come in threes, we have a third reissue from Epitaph this week. It’s the 20th Anniversary of The Weakerthans’ Reconstruction Site. If you live in Canada, you can get the “brown/apple” color variant here. And if you live anywhere else, here‘s a handy page with links to where you can buy the record depending on your region.

Here’s some new music from another awesome Canadian band, Brutal Youth! Their first new record in seven years Rebuilding Year is due out April 21st on Stomp Records. Manchester, UK punks Clayface‘s debut album Ailments is due out in May. It’s being co-released by Punk Rock Radar, Cat’s Claw Records & White Russian Records. The next stop on our punk rock trip around the world is the Netherlands, where Harsh Realms are putting out their first new album in nine years! Aaaand back to new plastic with old music pressed into it. Cowpunk veterans the Supersuckers’ 1997 album Must’ve Been High is back in print for the first time in a long time, but that’s not all! BL’AST!‘s 1989 LP Take the Manic Ride is back in print for the first time in over 30 years! According to the hype sticker, the album has been “sonically enhanced with an aggressive remaster from Brad Boatright”. Available on green vinyl (200 copies) here and black wax here.
Our friends at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records are always cranking out bitchin’ exclusive variants, with the latest being these Alkaline Trio records. Goddamnit and Maybe I’ll Catch Fire are each limited to 1,000 hand numbered copies. Both can be purchased for money here.
Beer City Records is releasing a new Boris The Sprinkler compilation LP called Bits O’ Boris. The record “collects a veritable cornucopia of 19 stray Boris tracks (all restored and remastered) from 1992-2003 that originally appeared on singles, compilations, and whatever else!”. There’s a shitload of color variants, all available here.
Originally released as a CD box set in 2005, The Lillingtons‘ Technically Unsound is finally getting the vinyl release it deserves. The 2xLP reissue features awesome new cover art from Chris Shary, and copies are going fast. Get yours here before they’re gone.

At long last, Blink-182‘s classic live (but not actually live) record The Mark, Tom and Travis Show is back in print! I think it’s been 7 years(?) since this was last repressed. Finally, you can get your hands on this bad boy for less than the $100 it fetches on Discogs. If you wanna grab a copy of this new pressing, this eBay listing looks like the cheapest option.
Also new from Blink this week: Buddha gets its like 30th color variant, thanks to Cleopatra Records. There’s an undisclosed number of copies on Blue w/ Red Splatter colored vinyl (it looks pretty sweet honestly). Get it from the label’s webstore; everything on there is 20% off right now, so this is only like $22.
Pennywise‘s 1993 classic Unknown Road turns 30 this year! Naturally, Epitaph is marking the occasion with a 30th Anniversary reissue. There’s a bunch of color variants; here‘s where you can get all of them.
German skate punk veterans Not Available are getting in on the reissue action, with a new pressing of their 2001 LP V8. They made 99 copies of this new Orange Marbled color variant, get yours here. Very underrated band.
Left Alone‘s debut album Streets of Wilmington is getting a 20th Anniversary reissue! There are 300 copies on Coke Bottle Clear colored vinyl – and 20 test pressings – available here.
The reissue train rolls on! (we’ll get to this week’s new releases soon, I promise). Striped Music has issued a second pressing of the 30th Anniversary Screeching WeaselAnthem For A New Tomorrow reissue. The first pressing on hot pink colored vinyl is long sold out, but now you can get it on blue wax here.
One of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2022, Soul Glo‘s Diaspora Problems, is back in print once again. 500 copies are available on this new Gold / Transparent Green / Pink Split color variant. This LP moves fast (I think this is the sixth pressing in just a year), so act fast and get it here if you want a copy.
Last reissue / repress, I pinky swear! Anywho, Chuck Ragan‘s 2016 solo album The Flame in the Flood is getting repressed. There’s a few variants: “Sunshine” (Canada), “Swamp Green” (US), “Flame” colored, and of course, black wax.
Alright you’ve all been patient, time for some NEW releases! First up is Italian skate punks Wasei, who just put out their awesome new record Vulgar Misplay of Burkett. 100 copies on black wax, 100 copies on colored vinyl. Listen below and grab the LP here.

Teenage Bottlerocket has a new four song 7″ coming soon on Pirates Press Records. There are three color variants: Hot Pink (1,200 copies) and “Evergreen & Blue Jay” (500 copies) are available on the label’s online store. Alright, lots of NOFX shit this week. Too much, honestly. Up first is this new variant of Eating Lamb (otherwise known as Heavy Petting Zoo). They pressed 2,000 copies(!!!) on “Ruby/Baby Blue” colored vinyl. Grab a copy here.
Epitaph also made 2,000 of these “Apple/Baby Blue” colored Pump Up the Valuum LPs, which you can purchase here. Boy oh boy are they milking you NOFX variant collectors, or what?
More NOFX!!! A few months ago, these 3xLP live records for the band’s final shows in Barcelona and Austria were announced. The art and color variants for these have finally been revealed… so I guess if you were on the fence about paying for live albums that haven’t been recorded yet, maybe this will sway you? Yes? No? Maybe so? I don’t know. Buy ’em here (Barcelona record) and here (Austria record).
Alright, from this point forward, no more NOFX. I pinky promise. Hey, look! It’s the Mad Caddies. You guys like the Mad Caddies, right? 2001’s Rock the Plank gets its first-ever colored vinyl release. Fat repressed it on black vinyl, too, if you don’t care about colors but want this record. Get yours here, they’re going fast.
If you haven’t heard of The Mopes, the band was fronted by Dan Vapid and also included his Screeching Weasel / Queers bandmates Jughead, B-Face, and Dan Lumley. Lookout! Records released their debut EP Lowdown, Two-Bit Sidewinder! on CD in 1998. 25 years later, Radiation Records is releasing it on vinyl for the first time. Pre-order here if you’re in Europe / Sounds Rad is distributing the record in the US, you can call “dibs” on it here.
Radiation Records is also releasing a 25th anniversary reissue of Italian pop-punk band Retarded’s debut LP. If you’re into Ramonescore, these guys are pretty fuckin’ tight and they’re still kicking. And just look at that color variant! Get the record here.
There certainly isn’t a shortage of reissues and repressings this week. Osker‘s debut album Treatment 5 gets its first new pressing in over 20 years thanks to our Spanish friends La Agonía de Vivir. Colored vinyl already sold out, but you can still get it on black wax here.
Here’s another one from La Agonía de Vivir: 22 Jacks’ debut album Uncle Bob gets released on vinyl for the first time, 25 years after it was brought into this god forsaken world. Steve Soto and Scott Shiflett played in this band, in case you weren’t aware. Buy the record here!
We covered this earlier in the week, but maybe you missed it so I’ll circle back. ALL’s 1998 classic Mass Nerder is getting a 25th Anniversary reissue. There’s a shitload of retailer-specific color variants, so I’ll just direct you to this post where I’ve aggregated links to all the places you can get all of them.
And since we’re already on the subject, have you pre-ordered the new NOT record? I did! These guys started a band for the sole purpose of writing songs that sound like ALL / Descendents songs that haven’t been written yet. And yes, it is as fun as it sounds. Their debut album Stop the World is out April 14th on Wiretap Records, Brassneck Records, and Waterslide Records. The Briefs‘ sophomore album Off the Charts is getting a 20th Anniversary(?) reissue. It’s been remastered and has two bonus tracks tacked on the B-Side. There are three color variants and they’re all pretty limited. You can get your hands on all of them here.
We Are The Union‘s 2018 LP Self Care is back in print thanks to the friendly people at Bad Time Records. There are a few variants of this one – BTR has some on their webstore and there’s another one that’s only available on Bandcamp. There’s also a “Royal Blue” indie variant / band version; not sure where you’re gonna find that one.
And putting a bow on this week’s massive Record Radar is a new pressing of NYC ska legends The Slackers‘ 1998 album The Question from the fine folks at Pirates Press Records. They pressed 1,000 copies on “Electric Blue & Doublemint Galaxy” colored vinyl, and another thousand on black wax. And I gotta say, $25.99 for a double LP in this economy is a pretty fuckin’ good deal, too. Get it here.
RECORD OF THE WEEK!!!
This week’s Record of the Week comes from a newer band that I’ve been really stoked on lately. Winnipeg skate punks One of Us caught me by surprise with their incredible debut album back in January. It seems like a lot of other people like it as much as I do, because the first pressing sold out really fast. The good news for those who slept on this record is that Melodic Punk Style recognized the demand and is issuing a second pressing of this beast. Check it out below and pre-order the LP here.

Kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, crack open a cold one, and break out those wallets, because it’s go time. Let’s get into it!

This week’s first record is from The Yum Yums, a great bubblegum pop-punk band from Norway. They have a new record called Poppin’ Up Again due out next month on Screaming Apple Records. It’s available to pre-order on black wax (limited to 500 copies) right here, and shiny red vinyl (100 copies) right here. Unfortunately, no tracks are streaming yet, but if you haven’t already heard of the Yum Yums just know that they have my ringing endorsement. If you don’t trust my opinion, just check out their last record:
2 hours down I-4 from yours truly, Orlando, Florida’s Suck Brick Kid are releasing a new record on local label Smartpunk Records. If you enjoy newer pop-punk, you’ll wanna pick up a copy of The End is What I Want on one of these pleasantly named color variants: Urinal Cake Vinyl (ltd. 100), and/or Shit ‘n Piss Vinyl (ltd. 400). Check out a few tracks below and pre-order the record here – it’s due out May 17th.
New Jersey pop-punk veterans The Ergs have announced a 2xLP 20th Anniversary reissue of the cult favorite dorkrockcorkrod. LP1 is the original mix, remastered by Justin Perkins (Screeching Weasel, the Riverdales, the Manges, etc.) at Mystery Room Mastering. LP2 is a brand new 20th Anniversary remix of the album, completed by Steve Albini using the original master tapes. This one’s due out June 5th on Don Giovanni Records; not sure how many copies were pressed but the splatter variant looks pretty sweet. Get it here.
Rancid‘s B Sides and C Sides compilation LP seems to be getting its first official repress in a decade, as a random pre-order has popped up on Amazon with a listed street date of May 3rd. Details are nebulous at the moment; aside from the cover art looking pink instead of red, I’ve seen some conflicting information. Amazon and this store both list Pirates Press as the label, but one says its a Double LP and the other does not. There also seems to be some debate about the release date. I rolled the dice and pre-ordered it, surely Bezos won’t disappoint.
The Circle Jerks and Descendents are on tour with the Adolescents right now (no, you did not just step out of a time machine in the mid-80’s). They celebrated the tour’s kickoff with a 7″ on which they cover a few of each others’ classic songs. The Descendents take on “Red Tape”, “I Want Some Skank”, and “Beverly Hills”; the Circle Jerks put their spin on “Kabuki Girl” and “Hope”.
Like a lot of the shows on the tour, literally every variant of this 7″ sold out fast as hell. The (potentially) good new is, you can (potentially) get a copy from the bands’ merch tables on tour. There’s a tour exclusive splatter variant, limited to 500 copies and signed by both bands (it seems these are limited to 20 per show), and it sounds like they’ll both have the red color variant as well. Denver punks SPELLS have a new record coming out on April 11th on Rad Girlfriend, Shield Recordings, and a few other venerable labels. Check out the lead single from Past Our Prime below and pre-order the record on “Snowy White” and/or “Blade Bullet” colored vinyl right here. The first 80 people to pre-order will get a hand numbered alternate cover art print. Cool!
Another leak from big dawg Bezos at Amazon.com – looks like The Dwarves are releasing a new “mini LP” not even 6 months after their latest record Concept Album. Keep It Reel features 7 new songs, 2 remixes, and “All for You” from the band’s aforementioned 2023 LP. Here’s the tracklist:
1. One Musketeer 2. Voodoo 3. Kinda Konsensual 4. Nobody Fucked You 5. I Had a Dream 6. Blast Off 7. Parasite 8. Invisible People 9. We Won’t Skate 10. All For You
Pop-punk supergruppe The Phase Problem‘s lineup includes members of Squirtgun, The Murderburgers, City Mouse, and a bunch of other great bands. Their 2023 debut album was 10 years in the making. Luckily the wait for album #2 was not nearly as long; The Power of Positive Thinking is due out next month on Lavasocks Records (US), Brassneck Records (UK), and Stardumb Records (EU). The record features guest appearances from Heather Tabor from the Teen Idols and original Squirtgun frontman Matt Hart, among others. It’s limited to 250 copies on red w/ yellow splatter colored vinyl. Pre-order this shit!
One of the marquee releases featured on the last Record Radar was NOFX‘s new EP Half Album. At the time, all the color variants were sold out, but since then a new variant on “green-gold” colored vinyl (whatever that means) has popped up on some European distros including Green Hell Records, Coretex Records, and Cruise Records. Supposedly this is limited to 500 copies and exclusive to German indie stores. I guess if you missed out on all the others (or you’re sick in the head and collect every NOFX variant) this is a good option for you to import.
Israeli punks Free Sergio new record The Nail in the Coffee is being released on vinyl by our friends at Punk Rock Radar, Cat’s Claw Records and High End Demin Records. Limited to 100 copies on yellow wax, this is a highly recommended pickup for fans of melodic punk with a harder edge (No Fun At All, Satanic Surfers, Belvedere, etc.). There’s even some ska-core sprinkled in here and there. Check the record out below and pre-order it here (US), here (Canada), or here (UK).
Washington State melodic punks Hilltop Rats are back with a new record for the first time in a long time. I’m about halfway through my first listen as I’m typing this and can confidently proclaim this is a god damn banger. Life You Lead is out now on Felony Records, with three bitchin’ color variants; one of those already sold out so quit fucking around and get your copy.
Everyone’s favorite Green Day album Warning is back in print on colored vinyl for the first time in a decade. The new Florescent Green color variant is up for pre-order everywhere but ol’ reliable Amazon is probably the cheapest place you can get it.
Dutch pop-punks Jetlag Jenny have a new 3-song EP called Animal Escapades due out April 19th on White Russian Records. Check out one of the tracks below and click this link to grab the 7″ on green and/or blue colored vinyl (each limited to 125 copies).
Days N Daze are releasing an LP of demos from recording session for their latest album Show Me the Blueprints. That includes five (5) never-before-heard songs. Very cool! The record is streaming now but the physical release won’t be out on SBÄM Records ’til May 31st. Get it here on one (or all three) of the following color variants: Dopamine, Cosmic Green, Dirty Orange. Limited to 200 copies each.
German punks Resolutions are releasing their sophomore album Monster Mirror on May 24th via End Hits Records. The lead single “Drop Dead” is great and the record comes in a pretty sweet looking reflective silver jacket. 3 variants: 50x lobster red, 200x black / white swirl (get both of those here), and 50x dewdrop (get it at the band’s shows).
New York pop-punk band Egghead (whose existence I’m just now being alerted to) released a compilation album called Dumb Songs for Smart People on Mutant Pop Records in 1999. 25 years later, it’s being released on vinyl for the first time thanks to the friendly people at Dead Broke Rekerds and Mom’s Basement Records. And as I finished writing this and went to look for links to pre-order I realized this shit is not up for pre-order lmaooooo. Well, when it is, it’ll be available on red and white color variants. Also probably worth noting these guys are playing some shows with the Ergs and Boris the Sprinkler in July.

In case you missed our story about it earlier this week, my favorite Screeching Weasel record Anthem For A New Tomorrow is getting a 30th Anniversary reissue. Italy’s Striped Music is pressing the record on pink vinyl (limited to 500 copies). All copies come with a poster and CD; pre-order here. If you just want the compact disc ? for some reason (I mean, it does have bonus tracks!), you can buy it here.
Another one to file under “new pressing of an old record” is this new “Apple/Lemon” color variant (1,000 copies btw) of Pennywise‘s About Time. This LP came back in print a few years ago and Epitaph‘s been milking the fuck out of these variants ever since. But that’s cool, it’s a great album! Get your copy here.
How about some new music? We like new music, right guys? The Bar Stool Preachers have a new album called Above the Static due out March 31st on Pure Noise Records. Check out their music video for the latest single below and pre-order the LP here (they’ve got a bunch of cool color variants for those of you who are into that kinda thing (I’m into that kinda thing)).
Back to new plastic with old music etched into it…The Bronx‘s IV is back in print for the first time since its initial release in 2013. The variant in the picture appearing on your computer monitor (or the screen of your cellular device) is limited to 500 copies and can be obtained for fungible currency here. Go get ’em, tiger!
Oh shit! More new music! Ramones-worshiping Australian pop-punks the Rimmingtons are releasing their debut album Rocket to Rimtown February 6th on Hey Pizza! Records. Check out a few tracks below and pre-order the LP here (US ?) or here (AUS ?).
